“One word to describe this hotel-Excellent Service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

Situated in the heart of Kolkata, New market, Sapphire Suites is a budget hotel with 5 star facilities. I had a very pleasant experience staying in this hotel with my father for a week (6th to 12th July) in Room 312. Initially, I had problem in my room as the AC was not working properly but I was immediately shifted to a different room facing new market & the clock tower. I stayed in a standard room which was very clean. The hotel service is very quick & prompt whether it is anything regarding in room dining, house keeping or reception. The complimentary breakfast offer both Indian & Continental cuisine. There are many fast food shops & restaurants near the hotel like KFC, Dominos, Bhoj Company, Prince, Subway, etc.

The best part of this hotel, is its STAFF who takes utmost care to make their guests feel like home. I felt very bad while leaving the hotel as they were almost like a part of my family. The hotel manager, Mr Ravi is a gentleman who was very kind enough to give a very good discount. Every staff member of the hotel, whether it was the reception, restaurant or house keeping, were very courteous, well trained & knowledgeable. If this hotel continues to maintain its quality & provide such service, it will soon be one of the best hotel in Kolkata.

Room Tip: Try to choose room facing new market or the clock tower. But if you want a quieter room then choose...

I had stayed in this hotel a few months ago, but did not comment the last time. However, this time I went with my family for a week-long stay in July. My wife was extremely happy as she is normally used to staying in five star hotels and I finally managed to convince her to stay in this four star hotel with me this time. Rooms are spotlessly clean, very well maintained. Service was prompt and efficient. Decor is in white and black which is a very ambitious color scheme for a hotel to maintain. However, they seem to manage to keep the place in an excellent condition. The whole hotel is extremely clean. Complimentary breakfast provided is good. So the family was very happy and satisfied.

Location is wonderful because it is in the heart of central Kolkata in our favourite place to shop - the new market.

For the price you pay, this is a very good bargain. Will definitely be staying here everytime I come to Kolkata. No need to book into a five star hotel if you can get the same service and experience at such a reasonable price.

Thank you for your wonderful service.

Room Tip: corner suites are the best

Stayed for 5 nights in the big suite with husband and child. Excellent room - clean, quiet and peaceful. Staff were very attentive to our needs. Room service was very prompt and efficient. Will definitely stay again.

During our last trip we stayed in HHI which is a five star hotel but the rooms in this hotel were much better than those at HHI, at lower prices. Much cleaner, well maintained and bigger.

Room Tip: stayed in 303. wonderful room

We stayed at Sapphire Suites for one night on our return journey to Kolkata. We also stayed at Hotel Casa Fortuna (see review) when we first arrived in Kolkata.

Sapphire Suite is wonderfully situated next to the New Market (or Hogg’s Market) and in the evening when the street vendors were out in full force, we had an enjoyable time of soaking up the hustle and bustle of street vendors plying their trades and bargain hunters looking for the best buys. Its very central location also means short walking distance to a good number of eateries around the Market and Sudder Street (Try Prince for Bengali food and Super Chicken for tandoori).

Our standard room has a stylish, modern feel. It is clean, bright and of a decent size. The modern toilet, with its natural ventilation and natural light, is possibly our No. 1 toilet throughout our entire stay in India this time.

We had a room on the higher floor and facing the main street. Although it was quite noisy during the day, it offered a good spot to people watch from the comfort of our room. Plus the traffic and human noises died down after 10pm so our sleep was not affected at all.

We recommend Sapphire Suite for its convenient location and modern amenities. It even comes with a small gym with basic gym equipment.

Awesome location, service substandard. Staff does not take responsibility. Reception blames housekeeping, housekeeping passes batton to someone else. Manager does not show up or answer a call. Would advice against staying here. There are much better and cheaper (or valu-for-money) options in Kolkata.

Located in the middle of New Market, it's a street shopping hotspot. Overall ambience is really nice, and though the rooms were a little bit smaller for my taste, it was well furnished and decorated. The toilets are spacious, and the hotel staff are extremely helpful. I didn't find the food at the restaurant quite appealing, but the location of the hotel makes it a moot point, since there are so many good places to eat nearby. The adjacent Sir Stuart Hogg market, the oldest market in Kolkata, is a great place to have a walk around. Overall, next time I go to Kolkata, I'll definitely consider it as an option.

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing the clock tower. It provides a nice view of the market.
