“Internet Facilities-Sorry about that”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

Had a chance to stay for 6 nights. Stay was quite good, but I was surprised that there were no escorts, and price of Internet was exorbitantly high. I have stayed in other hotels but Internet has been provided for free but here they charge Rs. 200 for half an hour (Extremely high) even from the standards of an International Hotel. I was expecting to have a free Internet facility. So, the whole stay was boring.

Also, it was surprising that the hotel doesn't do any customer profiling. They provided complementary beer when I do not drink any. Then where is the service. Customer profiling is very much necessary and it is done is many big hotels. Here they prefer to stay with their useless rules. Provide beer to anyone who checks in to the hotel. But everyone may not drink beer.

Dear Guest,

First of all, thank you for staying with us on your recent business trip to Kolkata. We are pleased to know that your six days’ stay at our luxury hotel was good.

However, we did notice your concerns over the pricing of the internet facility and the requirement for customer profiling. We have conveyed the same to our associates who have taken these mentioned points on priority and assure you that corrective action will be taken on all the valid observations.

Thank you once again for your feedback, it definitely helps us in meeting the requirements of our guests as well as aids in offering complete guest satisfaction. Hope to serve you again with an enriching stay experience on your future trip to the ‘City of Joy’.

We have stayed at the Kenilworth before and returned in January '13 and once again had a pleasant experience. We found the staff very obliging and accommodating and enjoyed all the meals/snacks that we had there. As we had a very hectic itinerary we enjoyed the few evenings we spent in the hotel chilling out.

My only criticism was the bed we had was two double beds pulled together, would have preferred to have had a queen size bed.

The hotel is located very close to Park street and very close to Victoria memorial. Its rather quite once you enter with in its campus with a small yet green lawn. Lobby is welcoming. Rooms are nice but go for rooms on the upper floors. The conference hall are in the basement which are not so good. One should go the for hall located in the other part of the hotel across the lawn. Shops are in close proximity as such one could even walk. The breakfast is good and the fish preparation are fabulous.

Room Tip: go for the rooms located in the upper floors not facing the road

Being from the UK and having never visited Kolkata or even India before, I was more than a little nervous about trying to find a good place to stay for my business trip for the week.

Having perused The Park and Chrome, both having reviews mentioning noise issues, I opted for the Kenilworth.

I wasn't disappointed as noise is certainly kept to a minimum. A party or something similar was happening in the garden area the evening I arrived, but the music was turned off by 23:00 which was great appreciated after my 20 hour travel. There is noise from the side street - but this is what Kolkata is, they all like to beep their horns, and this too dies down overnight. I would advise earplugs for the light sleepers (me!) from the Western world!

I was given a warm and speedy check in and shown to my room. The room was very smart, plenty spacious for me. Welcome touches of a morning paper in English as well as two bottles of water a day, were greatly appreciated. The bed was very comfortable and they even give you a choice of four pillows to choose from, but I was fine with what was provided. The air conditioning also is very good, in fact, I turned it off overnight.

The food provided by the buffet restaurant in the morning and evening (evening buffet is 799 rupee) is of good quality and there is plenty of choice. You will not get bored. There were a couple of western dishes provided too which again were welcome as I was starting to tire of curry after five days (can't believe I am saying that!!!).

I did also go to the more upmarket restaurant on site and this too was of good quality but quite pricy compared to high-end restaurants in the city I sampled, but for me I was happy to pay as it is convenient and more certain of the hygiene standards. I did have a furiously hot starter, a kind of brocolli dish, so be careful and ask them to prepare mild if you don't like your spice or have a timid western palate! It was a memorable dish nontheless.

I didn't get to visit the Big Ben bar, it seemed rather noisy with music the time I breezed place which having worked 11-12 hour days, I didn't really want to partake in. Likewise, I didn't visit the gym which is supposed to be good.

The housekeeping standards were excellent, so a credit to the cleaners. The security staff also were always welcoming each time I returned and very friendly as well as a reassurance for guests.

I would certainly visit again. The baseline rate for the room is excellent value, some of the extras you have to be careful on, but this is the case with any high end restaurant around the world.

The location is also very good if you need to be right in the city and is about a 30 min car journey from the airport. If I am to visit Kolkata again, this is where I will be staying.

Room Tip: Consider getting further away from the side street - room number starter closer to the 100 (e.g. 301...

The stay was nice but I feel the hotel is over priced. The rooms are clean and tidy. The beds however made creaking sound. Located in heart of the city and on a congested road. Need for some variety in the breakfast menu which was generally same on all days of the stay (Four Nights).

Is a good hotel in central Cal which is priced right. Have a good buffet breakfast, nice dinner, good clean comfy rooms.

The best part about the hotel is the gym which is very nice for a business traveller.

i have nothing to complain about this place, but it also did not impress me in any special way. the staff were very warm, helpful and accommodating. their breakfast and lunch buffet spreads are quite large and diverse. the rooms are clean and comfortable. i did enjoy observing an old abandoned house next doors! a safe bet if you are visiting Kolkata.
