“HHI - In the heart of the city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013 via mobile

We stayed in the rooms on the 8th floor. Rooms were quite clean and decorative. Staff was very helpful and quite conversant in Hindi, Bangla and English. Variety of breakfast items were available at Mythh dining hall. During peak hour road sometimes gets congested in front of the hotel. Overall nice and pleasant stay.

Terrible experience, bed & pillows are very uncomfortable, lots of mosquitos in the room. Reception staff not at all courteous - I was called thrice to check out from the room for next day (that is 24 hours in advance - as if they wanted me to leave the hotel right away) Mythe restaurant staff very lethargic. Except free internet & good breakfast no other plus points...

The hotel seems to be past its glory days. The decor of the entire hotel is old fashioned. The rooms are big and comfortable, the maintenance level seemed to be average. Overall a decent place to stay for business and family trips.

My room had a window, but when I opened it found cardboard ply had been fixed on the other side, so the view had been totally blocked. The other side of the hotel has flyover facing rooms, so there isn't any good view available there as well. The toilet was clean but average, the shower fixture seemed old but was working fine. The good part was that the bed was comfortable and AC was working, so had a comfortable sleep. The hotel has a discotheque in the basement which we found to be good, the entry was complimentary for hotel guests.

The breakfast buffet was decent, had good number of veg options as well.

The check-in and check-out process was smooth and hassle free. The hotel staff was courteous and professional.

as soon as we arrived, i new it was not a 5 star! starting with the employees uniform, they look old and very worn out!. they nicely receive you with a complementary juice, (but it was warm, the glass dirty and sticky, and it was a box juice). They have awards on the walls from 1997, which unfortunately, they never did anything afterwards!!
we asked for a king size bed, and when we got to the room, is a tiny little bed (which they called, king size). The sheets were very old, and opaque, the room walls were worn out, the tv looks new, but is very low quality, and with very few channels. it looked clean, but so old, that feels dirty. We asked to be changed to another room, since they were doing some work very close, and it was very noisy. We had to wait like 2 hrs, until we finally got changed to the 8th floor. It supposed to be luxury, but unfortunately, the same experience: noisy, water leaking in the toilet the whole day and night!, the hot water wasn't working, so only on my last night it got fixed. The room service for me to get dinner took 2 hrs to arrive, and it was pricey for what you get. Food was average. Service was average. internet was slow. the rooms were noisy. i will never come back to this hotel if they don't do something about it. Only go if you set in your mind a 2 or 3 star hotel. The only thing i liked was the lotion from the complementary toiletries. It would be nice if they start remodeling the place.

Our management has taken your matter very seriously with the concerned department of our hotel.t We had some renovation works at 5th floor for product upgrade - due to that you had faced the noise issue during your stay. Hopefully, by 15th June'13 - we would be operating with 5th floor after renovation .
We look forward in welcoming you back!!!

2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

We stayed at this hotel on two separate days: Apr 25 and May 2, 2013. The first stay we were on the exclusive 8th floor. The second night was on the lowly 6th floor. The 8th is slightly classier but both had the very worn dull carpeting in the hallways and rooms. The lobby and ground floor bar and restaurants are 5 star quality and up dated. The rest of the building are in need of renovation. In fact, the 4th floor has been gutted. (I always take the stairs, the first time I leave the room in every hotel I ever stay at in case you have to take them some time later in your stay for a fire alarm etc) In both rooms, the shower handles in the bath tub leaked badly. I would suspect that also means they leak water into the wall. There was a drain smell in the bathrooms of both rooms. What also miffed me was the very slow service in the rather uncrowded main restaurant the first night we stayed there. That was one thing. The second was at the bar when I asked for a beer and specifically wanted a brew from India. The barman looked at me like I had antlers or something and then offered me a Bud, Heineken or Carlsberg. I asked for Kingfisher which he didn't have and then he tried to tell me Heineken was from India. The real showstopper was on the morning after our last stay. I needed a pharmacy, chemist, drug store for a simple drug that most tourists would probably need. It was 7 AM, I asked at the front desk and the gentleman was very gracious. He sent me east down the road and yes, there was a drug store about 500 m down the road but it was not open. I walked around a large block and found a couple of others but none were to open before 10 or 11. When our driver picked us up at 8:30, he brought us instantly 300 m west of the hotel where there is a large hospital and at least 6 chemists who are open 24/7. Why didn't the hotel know this?

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 8th floor only.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

Stayed on 11th May 2013 for one night. As against the rent charged (Corporate Negotiated rate ), the room was very good with all star hotel amenities. Lobby area was impressive. Staff was very eager to help us out-again impressive. Location was good if one wants to stay within the city but far off from the Airport as the time required may be around one hour, Outside view from Room window was good from city Hotel perspective though nothing spectacular. A discotheque is also there with discounted rates for the Hotel guests but there was hardly any visitors being non-weekend day but otherwise the same was good. Local city attractions- Kalighat, Rabindra Sadan, Park street, Victoria Palace, Planetarium and Tram are all locate very nearby.

The hotel food and variety in buffet was good but relatively costly ( around Rs 1700/- for buffet dinner )as against the Hotel room Tariff. Even alacarte food was costly. During the day there was some noise coming perhaps owing to some construction work going on but same was bearable.Swimming pool was under maintenance.

Only disturbing feature was absence of Satellite set up box in TV. I think they are still using cable tv and one has to search the whole TV for getting to the appropriate channel. Very frustrating

Overall a nice property and if one is comfortable with the food cost , worth staying.

The banquet hall was very large, and had very good acoustics. Visited this place recently, on 30th April, to attend a CII programme. Food quality was very good, and staff was very helpful. The restaurant Kalash has a new look - will go back and dine over there with family soon.
