“Over priced very ordinary hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

Typical to most "budget" Kolkata hotels, this is another example of an over-priced one. The service is ordinary, the food is good, but overall it is not a value for money experience. My experience has been that they are not adequately prepared for providing service. Though enough staff is available, but logistics does not seem to be the strength of the hotel.
The food is good, though. That is one part which they seem to have taken care of well. The rest is sad. In the banquet, they were using old, tattered seat covers and stained table cloths. Looked like the curtains had not been cleaned from the day the hotel had opened.

If you don’t mind spending Rs 4000/- to 5000/- bucks per night only for boarding (food extra) inclusive of taxes, this is a great stay.
Superb location (near Laxmi Narayan Temple, Sarat Basu Road, Paddapukur, just behind the Chakraberia Durgapuja Spot – in fact this is a nice place to see some great Durgapujas like Chakraberia Sarbojonin), well-connected from airport and station through regular taxi services, smooth booking over phone, 24 hrs room service, all preparations available (chinese/indian etc), a cosmpolitn atmosphere, nice rooms, a smoothly functioning lift, nice lobby, professional services, neat and clean bathroom, a nicely functioning AC, a feeling of security, proximity to some great eateries (Jai Hind Dhaba is located just downstairs beside the hotel)….I have listed down these plus points…all so minor..yet mentionable…because in Kolkata..the city of joy…these things are hardly available..often very difficult to find. Of course you can’t always run to ITC / Taj Bengal / Grand at the drop of hat.
And yes…they accept all cards…and the card machine works…(unlike many other Kolkata hotels).
And there are many other hotels in the vicinity – so there is competition – and options available close-by in case if you don’t like this one.
Go for it. Getting a good, safe hotel in Kolkata is like getting a slice of moon. Strongly recommended. Remember babes…Kolkata can be a very nasty place without a proper, safe accommodation. I do have some first hand experience. City Of Joy is not all joy always. There's a dark underbelly of it.
That’s why I strongly recommend that better shell out some extra money, stay here and feel safe ,secure and cozy. Safety and comfort are more valuable than gold and diamond. You'll never lament.

Room Tip: Room No 506. Any room in 5th, 4th floor. In fact all rooms are great.

The staff is rude and unapologetic. The rooms are clumsy and look unclean. The corner rooms in side building are not connected with lift. The room where I was put up had AC but you could not control the temperature either with remote or panel buttons. The staff leaves after 7 pm and the service is terrible. My WiFi was not getting connected and asked for help. To my shock I was asked to carry my laptop to the reception. When I asked to send some person to configure, I was replied that there is no staff after 7 hence I will have to climb down to reception. Set Top Box in room do not have signal. Hence direct cable connection picture is dotted. Bed Sheets are stained. Food ok.If you ask for room change they say rooms are occupied, where as on website for that day rooms are available.

Room Tip: Do not opt for rooms on 1st and 2nd floor.

Small rooms with typical bad smell I had call for air freshner other wise it was difficult to even stand in the room.
Old window AC went off in the evening had to call maintenance team they fixed it but was a bad experience.
Untidy & Unhealthy corridors, cleanliness is a problem, dumb staff and below average breakfast.
Would never want to stay again unless there is no option.

Room Tip: you would be lucky if you find a good room

The rooms are small and claustarphobic. Lighting is very poor. Air conditioning is very bad, no central ac and is placed towards your feet so they get cold. Bed sheets are very dirty and staff is very uncourteous and rude. Room service takes an hour to send tea and the guy who gets it to room refuses to take the soiled plates or get the newspaper. I will not suggest you to stay in this place. It is no value for your money.

Issues found during my stay:
- Hand wash in toilet was leaking, next morning I found all the bathroom flooded.
- Shower was so dirty that pressure was ridiculous
- Bin was full of cigarettes from previous guest
- AC started vibrating in the middle of the night like hell!

Besides they asked me the payment in advance, in the check in. The tariff was 3700 Rs and I gave 4000. They said that they will not give me the advance until check out!! Incredible!
