“Neat, well managed, meets expectations. Location -ve.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

I stayed with my family for 3N & 3D here in Oct 2012. Most remarkable thing about this hotel is: it is extraordinarily neat, clean and cozy. Almost spotless.

I stayed in one of the 3 attic rooms. R/n 501, to be precise. 501 and 502 have good views of the Kanchenjunga range; 503 doesn't. 502 has the best view. I wonder if rooms in the floors below have any views of the range at all. But the restaurant on floor 4, has good views too. You can be in the restaurant early morning to catch glimpses of the sunrise.

SR doesn't serve meals, but you can order for snacks which the attendants will take good care to prepare and serve at the restaurant. Meals can be enjoyed at restaurants which are about a 7-8 minutes walk. The attendants and the hotel team were very courteous. The breakfast fare was incredibly sumptuous.

For anyone who has a problem to climb stairs, the attic rooms and restaurants are not going to be too attractive though. NO elevators. In fact, you will not find an elevator fitted in any hotel in Darjeeling.

I wish the street outside the hotel was cleaner. Really messy! In fact, the location of this hotel is not that great. Not in the quieter locales of Darjeeling. In fact, very noisy at night and early morning.

SR is not v close to the mall. Not that the mall is a great place in Darjeeling anyway, anymore. The quieter location of Darjeeling from where you can enjoy an uncut view of the range (Raj Bhavan area) is about kilometer's walk down and (mostly) up.

After reading mixed reviews on this hotel, we arrived with minimal expectations. However, our experience could not have been better. Right from the beginning we had a fantastic time at this little sanctuary. We had excellent service across all aspects, from in-room service for breakfast to hot water bottles and tea at night. Furthermore, our room was beautifully presented and spotlessly clean, with lovely white linen and a huge bathroom. We highly recommend Shangrila.

Room Tip: Go for the attic room (we were in 503) with great views

Such a bad experience i ever had with this hotel.. I had to shift from there the sane night i checked in.. 1:-there is no elevator., if your ready to climb all the way up with your heavy bags, you can stay.. 2:- during winter if you are two persons in one room, i am sorry, one person cant take shower, coz the heater atleast takes more than an hr to heat up again.. And the hot water quantity is leads than 4 cups.. 3:- there is no heater in the room.. if you need you will have to pay extra.. And that too for nothing, it will not warm up your room.. When i asked about this they said, why am i not going to a fivestar hotel if i am not satusfied.. Such a rude behaviour.. But thanx to them.. We lost our money, but we enjoyed our stay in a different hotel.. So i would tell you not to prefer this hotel, if you really value your money

We are sorry that this guest did not enjoy their stay at Shangri-la Regency. We would however like to point out that all the information about the hotel is stated clearly on our website and is also drawn to our guests attention at the time of booking. There is no elevator but then there are no hotels with lifts in Darjeeling. This is what it says on our website: "Guests who might find the climb up to the attic rooms a bit of a challenge could stay in the first floor rooms which are just a few steps up from the reception. Our staff are always on hand to provide assistance; please ask at the reception."

All rooms have standard sized geezers providing hot water. We advise there should be a 20 minute wait after use before the water is hot again.

During the winter season we give guests the option of having a heater in the room for an extra charge of Rs 200 per night. Again this information is on our website and given at the time of booking. We do however provide hot water bottles free of charge.

Shangrila Regency is a small, family run hotel which provides excellent value for money as verified by our very complimentary reviews here on Trip Advisor.

The overall impression was very good. Hotel staff were very helpful and room was very clean. View from attic room was excellent (given that u can see kanchanjunga.) Only drawback is that we could hear the people staying next door and that kitchen was off the hotel premises and as such you had to order way in advance. Food was very good. Other than that very nice and cozy stay. If you go during winter time ask for the hot water bottles, they really do help at night.

Stayed at Hotel Shangri-la Regency for one night on business. The room was on the third floor, had a balcony and had good partial view of the Khangdchendzonga range (marred by the adjacent building and hanging cables). The view from the dining area on 4th floor was much better, so the higher you go better views but you have to climb more stairs. The best bit was the breakfast - there is choice of three menus - We had the non-veg one with choice of egg, toast, corn fakes, tea/coffee, juice, baked beans, chicken sausage, potato etc. The portions are limited but the variety is great and the food excellent. The dinner etc is served from their Restaurant located ten minutes walk away and gets cold by the time it arrives - it also takes 60 minutes for service. The food is good. Recommended to walk down to their restaurant located on the Mall.

Room Tip: Go for the higher rooms for a better view if you don't mind climbing a few extra flights of stai...

Our stay involved a senior citizen (reasonably fit for her age). The construction taking place outside the hotel entrance -- the street connecting to the main road is totally dug up, muddy at times and with a plank over some mounds on occasion -- was something we did not expect, and proved to be an unnecessary challenge for the senior. In truth, the construction situation could have caused any one of us to accidentally slip and hurt or dirty ourselves.

Having said the above, I want to acknowledge that this construction probably won't last beyond the next month or so (based on my layman assessment!). If this is a potential concern for you and your party, you may want to ask them while making the reservation if construction would be completed by the time you arrive.

The hotel's location is pretty decent, close to the Dekeling (good Tibetan restaurant on the ground floor) and Kunga (another decent Tibetan place).

We are sorry to hear that this guest was inconvenienced by the roadworks which were being carried out by the PWD during their stay. Unfortunately we are not given any prior notice by the PWD of their work. We understand that the work will be completed within the next week. The work is only done during daylight hours so there is no noise disruption to guests.

Stayed at the newer wing of the hotel and the room was very clean and cosy. Some construction was going on outside , so the view was blocked. But we were already aware , no view would be there from this room. The room was large and breakfast was included in the package. Continental breakfast was served hot and tasty. The staff was very friendly and we even got refunded for cancellation without prior notice. Definitely a recommended place to stay while in Darjeeling .
