“Beautiful Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

This is the best hotel in Darjeeling. Beautiful views from the room. One can see the mountains from the room. In the evening the lights from the houses light the mountains. Excellent service from the hotel staffs.

Room Tip: Try to take a room which has mountain view.

Nice rooms. Its location was perfectly matched to tourist point of view. Near to mall road. If you like to walk in morning then adjacent to hotel was a nice jugging track. If can't visit to Tiger hill for first view of kanchanjunga then you can see just near to hotel.

We checked into Mayfair Darjeeling on 19th and checked out on 21st May. The hotel amenities are excellent. Courteous staff but they could have provided us with another suite room as we were 7 family members with 3 maids and an infant of 20 months. That wsd the only sour feeling as we paid for extra beds even when there was a room available. Chef Kailash was brilliant and knows his own ways of impressing his clients. Food, ambiance, children's play area, The Tenzing Library and the spa were great places. I wish the hotel arranges for the entire pool kit. One honest suggestion. If in Darjeeling Mayfair is the place to br in.

Stayed there 20th and 21st May 2014.

The property itself is charming, and the position next to the Governers House is excellent.

The downfall is the incompetant staff, and poor management.

Arrived at 13:00 on Tuesday to be told that they had WiFi but there would be a short delay. 48 hours later they were still trying to locate the problem.
Next decided to book a stream sauna and dry sauna. this was reserved 3 hours in advance. On arrival found that only the steam sauna was working, as the switch for the dry sauna had come off of the wall.
Finally went to relax in my room to find that in the room above, people were continually jumping on the floor, which reverberated like a drum in our bedroom. Phoned reception, and asked them to contact their guests to stop the noise. After 10 minutes asked again. after 20 minutes asked if they would send somebody over to stop the din. After 30 minutes, I physically went and banged on the door of the offending room and explained that there was excessive noise eminating from their room which was disturbing, only to be told that it is children, and what can you do. I mentioned parental control.
Finally I tracked down the manager who up till then had done nothing, and asked him to move us or these people, or else we were checking out.
The above guests were moved to a new location after 2 hours of continual complaints.
This was not to be recommended if you wish to relax.

This is a lovely heritage hotel at the top of the Darjeeling hill - conveniently located an easy walk away from the action, but far enough to give you a sense of space (so hard to find in India).
The rate included buffet breakfast AND dinner, but given we like to eat at various places when travelling, breakfast would have been enough. The quality of the savory food was high (don't save space for dessert), and we also enjoyed a drink at the bar.
We stayed in two rooms - firstly in the main (original) building. This was beautiful and you could get a sense of Darjeeling's colonialist past, but there was a lot of noise from the corridor.
We did have trouble on the first night with children running around the corridor ringing doorbells at 4am, but the hotel organised for a new suite in a separate newer building.
The staff were helpful and friendly throughout the stay, but they could have been more proactive by speaking to the parents involved.

This is a nice heritage property with its old world charm. It has good views of the valleys and also the service is warm and personal. The food is average to above average. This is surely one place where the hotel can improve.

Room Tip: surely choose the rooms on the floor from which you can access the verandahs directly from your room

A Mayfair resort is always exquisitely designed and their Darjeeling unit was no different. They have gorgeous rooms with great amenities. Lovely staff and very good location. But the problem was food. Incredibly bad buffet and here was my experience with the desert which very limited (bare minimum) and there was no ice cream. When we asked for it, they served the worst ice cream I have ever had and you know what the response was when I asked, 'we dont serve ice cream as we dont have good brands' ridiculously strange!! but nonetheless the property looked really nice!
