“Fantastic insight into tea production.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2013

The Happy Valley is a beautiful little traditional tea plantation dating back to 1854 but now run to the highest environmental and bio-organic standards. The FREE tour was very professional and informative, answering any questions fired. I was extremely surprised by the complexity of tea production, it is not as simple as pick the leaf, boil the kettle...but I shall let you visit the factory and find out all about it!

I have loved Darjeeling Tea since a child, now having an excellent tour around Happy Valley and purchasing some very good value tea from the factory I shall continue for many year enjoying Darjeeling Tea more so.

“Learn, enjoy, taste free with no pressure to buy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

Excellent and informative tour of factory and explanation of tea growth and manufacture. Guide really knew his topic and responded to all questions. Tea tasting at end. Purchase of samples was offered but not pushed. Tips and donations were refused.
Suggest a taxi down and a relaxing slow walk back up through tea fields after tour.

“Its wonderful to know why your tea is how it is and more!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2013

You are received and guided so warmly, through this bio-dynamic tea estate. We got a feel of all variants we could think of as our tour guide Mr. Mukund would explain in details the procedure of tea production and generously gave any information we were curious about. Every tea lover who wishes to know and feel his tea more intimately should head to Happy Valley. I just wish we could taste more variants.

“Absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

We walked to the Estate from our hotel near Observatory Hill. It was a lovely walk through the winding alleys of Darjeeling and down through the tea gardens. When we arrived at the Estate we were stopped just outside the gate by a lady who runs a tea house just outside the main gates. She tried to tell us that the Estate was closed and that there was nothing to see. We were extremely glad that we ignored her advice and went on to the Estate. At the Estate we were invited to take an outstanding tour of the factory and our guide provided a fun and informed overview of the Estate and tea growing and processing. We were not charged for the tour and felt no pressure to buy tea but we, of course, happily made purchases to take back with us to New Zealand.
We would rate the welcome and tour as one of the outstanding activities of Darjeeling. Thanks.

“Avoid Avoid Avoid”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

It's one of the places which is a total waste of time and money. I am extremely disappointed with this place as it has nothing to offer. I reached there after I saw their reviews on TripAdvisor and also my Hotel suggested me to visit with their(happy valley) promotional visiting card. I was with my family and with my 8year old daughter who was extremely curious and excited to visit a tea estate and we returned completely disappointed. Reached the place around 10 am on a weekday and there was no one to guide us or tell us about anything. There were a few employees standing at the entrance gossiping with each other with no courtesy to tell us anything. We tried seeing whatever we could but all we could find are a few arrows which were just too confusing. We even wanted to buy some tea and asked those hopeless employees and we were again not guided towards anything. On the way out there were two ladies again gossiping with each other at the exit who over heard our unsatisfactory remarks and tried to oblige by saying "if you want to know something or buy tea there's a shop above somewhere" by that time we were already pissed off and we left with disappointment.
Darjeeling has the best of tea estates like Makaibari, Namring, Nathmulls etc and everyone is more than happy to take you to a free tour and also offer tea tasting, Happy valley is just preferred because it's close to the city. I would rate it as one of the smallest and wastage of time and money to visit.
