“No diesel engines please”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2013

The DHR is unique in a number of ways and any thought of Darjeeling surely reminds one of the Toy train. However to our great surprise we found quite a few diesel engines in use which did not have the same charm. Maintenance of coaches too need to be done on an urgent basis. In season the coaches are packed to capacity. We could get our ticket for the next day last ride. The museum at Kurseong and Ghoom are a must visit.

The view of the majestic Himalayas is breath-taking. It is an absolute favourite of mine in whole of India.

“Traffic jams make it like a tram travel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

The round-trip joy ride is overpriced. More so if you are a family as there are no concessions of any kind. The scenery is no different from what you would see if you took a taxi to Ghoom Monastery. The motorman has to continuously blow the horn to clear road traffic from getting too close to the tracks. If you get a seat up in front of the coach, you will most likely have to bear with the stench from the toilet.

“Joy Ride booking in IRCTC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling Toy Train service was suspended since 2011. service was not restored till Sept 2013. Tickets can be booked from IRCTC.CO.IN website from Darjeeling to ghoom and back to Darjeeling. otherwise day trip to kuresong. buy tickets in the early morning or up to 10.00 AM departure so that have plenty of time in hand to visit other places inside darjeeling. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway was the first, hill passenger railway listed as a World Heritage Site declared by UNESCO. Certainly enjoyable.

“Sad ride”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

The joy ride is priced very high. It goes through the places very very slowly and covers only 2 spots one is Ghoom railway station which has nothing to see and Batasia loop which is a flower garden. Also they have a steam engine which makes a lot of noise which is unbearable resulting in a bad experience. Overall this ride can be avoided. It is very expensive for the value added.
