“The only warm place in darjeeling.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

After 3day stay in darjeeling, visiting several different bars and cafes.. this is the only one with adequate heating.. it has a warm friendky atmosphere. Drinks are reasonably priced and staff extremly friendly. Good mix of clientele.

“Excellent pub!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2013 via mobile

What a great find! This is a proper little pub with a good mix of locals and travellers (and no groups of staring men either). A pleasure to enjoy good company and good beer. Located near the big cinema down from the taxi chowk

“Some of the most friendly publicans I've met”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2013

I just returned from 2nd trip to Darjeeling in 18 months and once again made sure I popped in to Joey's bar almost every night whilst there. It may not be big in size but it is big on hospitality and a great place to meet both locals and other tourists.
The couple that run this bar are some of the most friendly publicans I have met anywhere (and I've met a lot). Always friendly, always welcoming and great to sit and have a chat with if the place isn't too busy. It's only a small place with 5 or 6 tables and a few seats at the bar plus an outside smoking area with a couple more tables and a few seats. If it's busy it can be a little crowded but the atmosphere is always good.
The bar does not serve food itself but some can be ordered in if needed or there are plenty of restaurants nearby. It's only open in the evenings from 6pm as far as I know and is a bit of an icon amongst regular visitors to Darjeeling and many locals alike. It's a great place to catch up with other tourists but I also had many chats with the local patrons who are normally just as warm and welcoming as the owners themselves.
The music selection is great (almost purely old rock n roll) and unlike many bars in India it is played at a volume that still lets you chat and laugh with the people you meet. I can't speak highly enough of Joey's bar and each day in Darjeeling I found myself looking forward to the evening where I could spend a couple of hours in great company.
Don't expect any flash decor or fancy fittings. Joey's is happily rustic and I wouldn't want it to be any other way.

“Like a 70's flashback”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2013

Joey's is a very cozy little pub in Darjeeling. When you step inside, it feels a bit like you've gone back in time. The Zombies and Otis Redding play over the sound system, the bartender (Joey himself?) looks straight from the mentioned time period, and pictures of the Beatles and British flags adorn the walls. The bottles of beer are huge and the hot Toddy's are strong and warm. A great evening hangout and escape from the typical Indian joint.
