Reaching this hotel must be one of the toughest jobs for a tourist . Located in a narrow pathway which goes by the name of H D Lama Road ,to say that it is inaccessible is an understatement. The so called road is choked with vehicles moving ( or rather struggling to move ) both ways and to make matters worse , the road comes to a dead end just beyond the hotel. So if a tourist is travelling in a vehicle , he will find it hard to approach . And even if he somehow reaches the place , the vehicle will find itself in a jam ; as it must make a U turn at an extremely tight spot. Then to make the vehicle stand for a couple of minutes for the luggage to be unloaded is another nightmare. A narrow and stiff , though small , staircase leads to the reception counter. Once you reach there you are entitled to heave a sigh of relief for having conquered a great feat.
The hotel itself is reasonably good . Room is decent for the price and food quality is acceptable. Staff are polite and helpful. The complimentary breakfast served in the dining hall ( room option is also available) is not great but practical. It's best to come down to the dining hall at lobby level for breakfast to get hot food and tea. It opens at 8...Reaching this hotel must be one of the toughest jobs for a tourist . There is no lift but the rooms are spread in three or four floors. A person who is not comfortable with climbing stairs should ask for a room in ground floor or first floor while booking . There is no guarantee of availability . The lower floor rooms are not as ventilated as upper floor rooms . The latter also have better views from the windows.
The surrounding is clumsy , but Darjeeling is like that only. A look outside from the hotel window , especially in a room on ground or first floor , will give you an idea what you should expect outside.
Another tip : if you are a connoisseur of tea and if you like it strong and hot boiled with milk , then avoid the expensive Darjeeling tea and opt for ordinary tea which is very good in this hotel.More
