“Convenient and Clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

If you are going to US Consulate, look no further, this is the most convenient hotel. It's just a 5 minute walk to the Consulate. The rooms are clean and compact. And the staff are extremely courteous. The only downside is there's no Internet in the rooms, but you can use the wifi in the lobby. But I would recommend this hotel anyday.

Hotel is very average, nothing great about it. Rooms are average so is service. I booked this hotel for staying overnight in transit from Bangalore to Port Blair. I reached late night and left early morning.

I was staying with my Wife and kid. Room is average but comfortable for one night stay. Although it had complimentary breakfast but that was just for namesake. They did not have the area to serve breakfast so they said it is provided in room. They sent only 2 sandwich with tea. Inspite of my asking for more that was all they served.

So it was only the room and which was defintely overpriced.

The Sea Shell Residency is in a great location, it is opposite two good restaurants and just a walk away from Spencer Plaza. In the hotel, the service is good. The staff are very polite and helpful. The manager went out of his way to help us book a cab to the airport. Unfortunately, the rooms could not match that standard (We were in a Executive room). It seemed fairly clean at first but when we looked at the bedsheets it had spots which we were unsure about and the bathroom lacked toilet paper but it was generally clean. The noise from the main road was unavoidable and slightly disturbing. Overall, if the hotel can refurbish their rooms, they can be excellent in the future but for now there rooms keep them as an averaage hotel.

The hotel is ok to stay for a few days. Basic room and facilities. Wifi only at the reception. And a bit expensive for what it offers like everything else in Chennai. The food from their restaurant is really good, especially the shawarma.

Sea Shell Residency is located right where Greams Road joins Anna Salai Highway. It is only a walking distance from US Consulate.

There are 2 vegetarian restaurants available, one just below the hotel and one right opposite to it. Both restaurants are okay, though we found the food a bit costly. The hotel provides only 2 bread sandwiches/person as a complimentary breakfast . This should be requested between 7.30am and 9am.

Though we booked online for a Deluxe room, they provided us an executive room since all deluxe rooms were occupied then. The bathroom was very clean. The room, a moderate sized one, was also found neat and clean. No problems with mosquitoes or cockroaches either.

We had the AC running continuously without any problem. There was also a TV with enough channels to choose from.

We left our laptop and mobile phone at the hotel counter, because inside US Consulate, where we had to appear for visa interview, nothing other than papers were allowed. This way, we avoided leaving behind costly items in the room.

Altogether, our one 1-day stay at the hotel was comfortable.

My first reactions were .... wow Big rooms. But as I booked in I just asked myself why is it so big. I mean the room is like from 90's. the fan switch is across the room ( yeah not near the bed as it should be). The tv is right out those 90's movies - boxy and small. The Ac is like in another corner some 8feet above the floor and with no remote. So everytime you want to regulate the temperature ... you just can't. So lay shivering under the blankets that's has holes in it ( initially, then I for it changed).
Now about the bathrooms... Well I am sure they are better than public toilets but then I wish it was just more than a just functional ( but clean, I give that) bathroom. For the kind of money the hotel charges, I wish they had better than just a sink + wc bathroom. I might sound repetitive but yah, this bathroom belongs to the 90's, no later.

About the food, is it too much to ask for food that is served on plates like it is done elsewhere. But these guys think that's a foreign idea. So they serve you food in packs and boxes that it came in from their own restaurants!!!!
Un-$&#%^¥£-believable!!!!! Right??

Now the good points, the rooms are clean, staff are friendly and speaks Hindi/English. The location however is the best.

But will I reconsider staying here again in my next visit to Chennai. Not a chance!!! Unless of course they bring themselves up to date by at least 30years... Minimum.
