“Great Value for Money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2006

I stayed at the Residency, not the Residency Towers. Both hotels belong to the same chain with the Towers being newer and a bit more upscale than it's older cousin.

After mistakenly landing in a dump of a hotel called the Himalaya late at night arriving from the airport, I was quick to relocate the next morning. I had seen the Residency's website which looked so-so but was so desparate that I just landed on their doorstep and asked for a room. Great surprise, the standard rooms were roomy and clean, with the deluxe having the same size but more amenities such as a flat-panel TV instead of a tube plus a room safe. I believe this is the hotel which offered the most bathroom goodies of any hotel I have EVER been to including talcum, coconut oil, a shaver with cream, toothbrush with toothpaste, and more. The hotel isn't new but kept in good shape with frequent paint jobs. The marvelous buffet breakfast is included in the room price. The same restaurant also serves great buffet meals, which cost extra but are well worth the price. The room cost is very reasonable compared to what you get. I recommend this hotel. For more, check out my personal website with some photos of the room I stayed in as well as pictures of Chennai at http://romanvirdi.com/lodging/hotel-residency-chennai.htm

The Residency Towers wins on all accounts- great location ( near the shopping zones! ), great staff ( although not as spiffy as the oberoi's and tajs of the world ) , great and affordable food and ofcourse, very decent rooms at realistic rates. I have stayed there atleast 15 times and will keep coming back!

We stayed at a number of hotels in Mumbai and Southern India. Aside from the Residency Towers, we also stayed at the Ambassador Pallava. We came across the Residency Towers because our friend was having her wedding reception there. The hotel was new, clean, and had a sports centre (gym, pool, spa). You can access the internet from your rooms for Rp 100 p/hr or Rp 500 for 24 hours. As for the style of the hotel, it may be more of a business hotel than a romantic getaway, but I'm not sure if there are hotels in the latter catagory in India.

I did have some problems trying to commmunicate to the staff. On one occasion, I ordered a soup through room service and they delivered it without a spoon. I called room service and spoke to a lady who spoke very bad English, so after a while she asked if she could call me back. AFter 20 minutes she still hadnt. I called again and spoke to the same lady who passed the phone to (presumably) the manager who seemingly understood my problem and promised to send someone to bring me a spoon - it never came.

The Ambassador Pallava (and all the other hotels we stayed at in Mahabaripuram, Pondichery and Mumbai for that matter) paled in comparison. It was very dated (I especially cant stand dated bathrooms as they often just look like dirty bathrooms) and yet more expensive than the Residency Towers. They did have free internet access on the lobby level (2 computers and wireless access for those with their own computers) and a sports centre (although we didnt try it out).

  • Liked — New, clean, has a sports centre and the rooms were at reasonable prices
  • Disliked — Isolated problems with communication with staff
  • Tips/Secrets — Probably one of the best choices in Chennai

This is a lovely hotel, newly built about 3 years or so ago and great value for money. The rooms are well appointed and the lobby area is relaxing yet still with a bit of bustle. Centrally located and with good pool and business centre. The rooftop restuarant is excellent and great views over the city. Keep coming back time after time.

This is a wonderful hotel.
Clean, new, well furnished, great service almost impeccable and the best hotel I've been to in Chennai and I tried several, most are overpized too.
The Residency Towers is an escape from the fumes of Chennai and it has a fantastic almost Las Vegas style buffet
for $8.
See if you can get in, the best kept secret in town.( and I don't work for them!)
