4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

Residency Towers is conveniently located in the upmarket commercial area of T nagar in Chennai. Pondy Bazaar is just a few mins walk from the hotel. The Hotel has a good lobby done up in Italian marble and has two restaurants at the Lobby level and one on the rooftop. When I reached there at 8.30 PM the room was not ready and I had to wait for about 10 minutes before the room was ready. Unfortunately the Lobby was full of mosquitoes. I have seen a similar problem in other upmarket hotels in Chennai because of a open canal running through the city. The staff was seen to be making an attempt to keep the mosquitoes away. O my request I was allocated a room on a higher floor which had a wonderful view of the city. The room was very modern in its furnishing and was of reasonable size with a king sized bed. The air conditioning was effective and the temperature controls worked well. They had equipped the room with a 40 inch Sony Bravia LCD TV. A free internet connection was provided and the speed was reasonable. The bathroom was clean and good quality toiletries from Biotique were provided. A talcum powder, which is useful in a humid climate like in Chennai was also provided. My only problem was that the lighting in the bathroom was casting a shadow on the mirror making shaving a difficult exercise. The problem was compounded because the bathroom walls are of black tiles and hence the lighting seems inadequate. They can also improve upon the bedside reading light by providing two reading lamps attached to the bed head rest. I ordered for dinner through room service and was promptly served within 15 mins. and the food quality was quite good.Breakfast is served in a cafe on the ground floor. When you enter this cafe, you feel that you have been transported to a European pub as the decor is similar. The breakfast spread is good and the service efficient. In this same restaurant you can get a buffet lunch and dinner also.

Room Tip: Request a room on the higher floor as the view is fantastic.

I had visited this hotel with my friends while in fun trip to Pondy and Chennai. I had to do so much of research for an excellent hotel in Chennai that offers 24 Hrs checkout. I came accross this hotel and gone through many reviews on Tripadvisor and found great reviews. I had booked it without second thought through makemytrip.com. The amenities of the hotel were very good and rooms were maintained well and also they are spacious. Though it is a 4 star property, it appeals like a five star. We were pleasantly surprised by the presence of the iPhone docking station. We have 2 iPhones and it helped us not to unpack our chargers. Wash rooms were maintained very hygenic. Buffet breakfast was tasty with wide spread of choices. We had noticed few flaws like Bellboy not attending on time, the disparity shown in greeting guests by few of the staff in front office and not replacng toiletries by housekeeping after cleaning the room (taken care upon calling them). If management can address these misc issues, it would help the guest in enjoying the stay with full satisfaction. Overall we were satisfied with the stay.

Thanks residency towers Chennai, for making mine and my family trip very peaceful. To come out of the hectic life of Melbourne and staying in this place was some thing I will remember for quite sometime.
I needed the break and you provided me with excellent food and comfortable stay. I am surely coming back and will recommend this place to my family and friends who are visiting Chennai.

I spent four nights in this hotel. Much better hotel than the neighboring GRT in terms of amenities and room quality. Rooms are clean and spacious; decent toileteries provided for the guests.
The gym area is very good. An open swimming pool on a higher floor and an open terrace was a great place to relax and lay around.
Food is OK. Spa area and service needs a lot of improvement and does not match the hotel calibre. Other hotel services were decent. The front desk seems to be under staffed. I did not have any trouble but saw them getting swamped quite often.
I would stay here again.

Considering the volume of positive reviews on tripadvisor, I was surprised by my poor experience at The Residency Towers and had shared my concerns with the oncall duty manager on Friday February 15th who said that he was sorry and it was due to unavoidable situations.

Positives:
1) 24 hour check in and check out
2) Located centrally in T. Nagar, close to shopping, etc
3) Polite staff
4) Beautiful architecture
5) Good drivers who helped us get to and from airport
6) Southern Aromas - good food with good service, clean environment
7) Club room (when we finally got it) was spacious

Negatives:
We had booked a club room approximately a month ago. They knew of our arrival since there was a taxi waiting to pick us up. However, once we got to the hotel, they informed us that the room was unavailable. After about 15-20 minutes of waiting, they said we could use a room to temporarily freshen up. We left our things, and decided to explore the city while the room was being prepared. We asked the travel desk for some recommendations on shops we should visit, and he gave us a list of shops 30 minutes away. Even when asking about local textile shops, he said "these were the best" Meanwhile just a 10 minute walk away, there were many possibilities. We chose a hotel in T Nagar just because of how close it was to shopping so found it odd that he would recommend we leave the area despite sharing what our needs/expectations were. So don't rely on the travel desk. Do your own research!

We return a few hours later to find that there is still no room ready. Only by 8p were we provided with a club room (after having been there since that morning), and then we had to wait an additional 3 hours for an additional bed to be brought up (which was part of the original request placed a month ago) despite contacting the front desk several times ("yes sir, yes ma'am, they are on their way")

The lobby has swarms of mosquitoes hovering over guests (please address this!!!). The room had a few but was tolerable. The television in the sitting area of the club room was not working. The area where the buffet is held is dirty, the food is not fresh/not kept appropriately warm or cold. The service is lacking - we were seated, then a few minutes later was asked to get up and move for no apparent reason. I saw two cockroaches on the table (if I saw two, you know that there are many many more elsewhere).

Although I checked out less than 24 hours later, despite all the inconveniences, l was charged a full day rate + extra person charges (food, stay). Usually when hotels don't provide the services originally agreed to, there is some adjustment to the final cost. It was not even worth arguing over, since while extremely polite the staff does not hear what's actually being said and just goes through robotic motions.

The hotel has a lot of potential, but it needs to be maintained, the staff while very polite needs to be adequate and better trained. It seemed as though they were all confused, running, and not paying attention to what we were saying. I have no other experience with hotels in the area, and in the end it provided a place for us to sleep. Maybe the majority of people staying there are from within India and they don't mind what I've mentioned above (everyone MUST have seen the mosquitoes in the lobby), but the western standards and image it is trying to project was most certainly not met as of last week.
