Stayed in June 2008, for a couple of days at this hotel. First timer in Chennai.
The 13 storey buidling appears new and well maintained.
Carparks appears limited, and the road directly in front of the Hotel was and still is under heavy construction. However, there were lots of carpark attendants and staff in crisp and smart uniforms await our every whims.
Lobby was lavishly furnished, fit for a five star hotel. Over the counter service was ever polite, and provides first class service.
L- Lobby, three lifts expensively furnished. Restaurant, seasons serves poor buffet at limited international dishes with some local dishes. Experienced extremely slow and frustrating slow service during dinner time.It took forty five minutes to one hour and fifteen minutes for the first and last dish to arrive. Imagine a difference of thirty mnutes for my first and last colleague to dine, and the restuarant was not even 15% full.
L1 - Zodiaz, a lounge styled bar. Hardly any crowd.
L2 - I think a family styled resturant is available.
There is also a business centre located at the 4th storey, and a Pergola (164ft above ground level, which claims to be the highest open-aired restuarant). And of course the regular, spa, heath club, pool etc.
I did not see any sourvenir shops, convenient store located in the hotel.
It is a business related Hotel, not a resort nor a tourist hotel.
Allocated a superior room in the 8th storey. Room comes with a King sized bed with cheap sheets and mattress. A wrting table (nice touch for doing some work in the hotel), a flat screen TV, mini bar, an electronic safe, an arm chair with foot stool. Bathroom comes with nice and posh amenities like tooth brushes, shampoo etc. It was small though, but serves its purpose nonetheless.
Room was sparkling clean and comfortable, but appears more like a four star than a five star considering the furnishings. No alarm clock and radio available. There are three phones however, one in the bathroom, one near the bedside, and one at the writing table. Room serivce good and prompt. Laundry service, one of the best I have experienced.
Be surprise comes Saturday night, as you can hears loud music from one of the pubs/disco, in the building.
There is free wireless connection at the Lobby. But costs RP300 for a two hours in the room to RP600 for whole day (w.o tax). A big minus, more so it counts from the time you surfed, not accumulative time spent surfing.
There is a 24 hours clinic opposite and some small shops nearby, which was not of particular interest nor relevant.
Corridor leading to room, posh and clean.
All in all, room acceptable. But at the price paid, the Le Meridien Hotel appears a better choice.
