The Hotel is a good Budget Hotel and is centrally Located in the city of Chennai. It has good abience and maintained in a Clean and hygenic manner. Further, Marina Beach is also at walkable distance. It is certainly value for money.Good trip and stay.

Room Tip: Book front road facing rooms.

The location is good and the hotel has an impressive facade. However the story ends there. It's a completely different picture once one enters the hotel. The lobby is poorly managed, the lift is a rickety old one with extremely dirty interiors and a dirty carpet. The rooms are fairly spacious but we were greeted with a strong damp smell the moment we stepped in. No doubt the bell boy carried a room freshener along with him at the time of shifting our luggage to the rooms. The carpet was unclean with stains and marks all over. Half of the electrical switches were not functional and there was no AC temperature control inside the room. It's probably the first hotel I have stayed in where they don’t believe in making beds. The blankets are kept inside the cupboard and one is expected to make his/her own bed.
Bathroom was dirty and full of stains, the ceiling roof was coming off and hold it................there were termites all along the ceiling. The bathroom fittings were rusted and there was no hot water in one of the rooms we were assigned.
We found it nearly impossible to get in touch with housekeeping or the reception after 10 pm at night.
The breakfast next day morning was equally pathetic and with cold and soggy uthappams and hardly anything else to mention about.
The lobby staff is extremely inefficient and could not locate our papers at the time of check out !
Overall though the hotel is rated a 4 star, it does not even deserve 2 stars. It’s an old and extremely ill maintained property.

Good part -

> Restaurant food was nice, restaurant staff was really helpful.
> Awesome is the world for its location. 800 mts from marina beach & 500 mts from City center mall.
> Although I had to dig into discussion with reception guys for my room which i booked. Over all good reception. You will feel like visiting British kind of hotel.

Bad Part -

Good things always comes with bad..so here we have below things

> Hotel needs renovation very badly.
> Lift will make you feel, that you are actually in scary house.
> No one to assist you & your luggage. (till room).
> Carpet really needs to be changed.
> Room's door needs to be changed. (I had to struggle for 3-4 mins to open door)
> Room was neither stinking nor it was very fresh.

OVER ALL - 3/5. Visit only when you need some branded named hotel near beach and you have limited budget.

Cheers!

I had gone on a business trip to chennai and someone recommended this hotel to me. The location of the hotel is very good. But the hotel really needs major renovation. The lift is one of the smallest I have ever been in. The rooms were old and smelly. The food was average. All in all not a hotel i would recommend.

1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2010

Dear Fellow Traveller,
I believe you are like me looking for a good value for money hotel. Took my family to Chennai for a holiday in June 2010. Looked up the Internet for a place to stay the 3 nights. Found President Hotel Chennai and was impressed by the write-up on their website - something about being a great place, good location and ocean-facing. Booked the hotel and communicated via email to one Reshma. Specifically told her that I wanted to give my family a great holiday and reserve me a nice ocean-facing room.
What a disappointment when I got to check in. The assigned me a dirty, old, stinking room. Definitely not worth the Rs2700 plus Rs500 for extra bed. Swimming pool was never cleaned for don't know how long. I of course rejected the room but so as not to lose the sale they offered me another room after 3 hours wait. Room was marginally better (at least no stink) but definitely not worth the cost. Since we were tired we accepted this room but checked out 1st thing next morn and checked into a cheaper, better, cleaner, better located hotel in T. Nagar.
BTW cost of hotel pick up from Chennai Central Station (7 km away) is Rs600 (you pay the parking at the station on top of this). What a con-job. Csn easily get to the hotel with Rs200.
In summary - I've travelled quite a bit. This is the worst hotel that I have stayed in. DON'T STAY IN THIS HOTEL.
Regards

The room service, cleanliness was above average and infrastructure is excellent.
