Spencer Plaza is an interesting place to visit and is unlike any mall I've ever been to in the States. There are three phases or sections and three floors in the shopping mall. Take note of where you came in at, or you will never find your way back. It is laid out with a main hallway, but there are smaller hallways everywhere, so if you find a shop you like, get a business card which should have the location of the shop printed on it, otherwise you may be searching a long time for the shop you liked.
There are several differences between Spencer Plaza and an American mall. First of all is the layout. There are hallways everywhere and there doesn't seem to be pattern to it. After a few visits, you'll be able to find your way around fairly well, but don't be surprised it you get lost a time or two before you figure it out. Second, is the shops. Spencer is made up of alot of small shops rather than the commercial type shops we are used to in the States. There are a few large shops in Spencer like Landmark, Westside and Pantaloon, but the majority are small shops. Lastly, is the shopkeepers. They will be outside their shops inviting you in to view their merchandise. Some will be insistent, but don't let it bother you. Go into the shops you want, but don't feel like you have to go into every shop. If you don't want to go into a shop, just say no thank you, shake your head or just keep walking. Different tactics work on different shop keepers. Remember, this is your shopping expedition, go where you want and ignore the rest.
As for merchandise, just about everything is available. Health and Glow, has a pharmacy, and carries beauty/health products for both men and women. Landmark has a little bit of everything like dvd's/cd's, books, toys, jewelry, luggage, things for the home, etc. There are a multitude of jewelry stores, handicrafts stores, clothing stores, and some stores that sell all of the above. Leather stores abound, and if you are in the market for a carpet (wool or silk) or pashmina shawls there are a multitude of shops that can deliver. There is also a food court, which has a selection of different foods, including a Pizza Hut and Subway.
I suggest visiting Spencer during the week to avoid the weekend crowds; however, if you must go on the weekend, i recommend between 10am and 2 pm. After 2pm it starts to get really crowded and the hallways become difficult to traverse. Good luck and enjoy!
