“POOR RESPONSE FROM MANAGEMENT”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

I checked in on 22.09.12 at around 3.30am.Based on a 24hr checkout system i was scheduled to check out on 3.30am on 24.09.12.Seeing that my train was at 7.50am i asked for 2-3hrs more.Normally the management of hotels if they don't need the room usually oblige. However the management although they did not need the room as the hotel was relatively empty were extremely reluctant to oblige. They said that if I wanted more than 1hr (which they were willing to give) I would need to pay them 2500INR+taxes.After asking why couldn't they be a bit more helpful towards my situation they coldly told me"WE ARE HERE TO DO BUSINESS AND NOT TO BE HELPFUL"!An otherwise relatively pleasant stay at an average hotel was very much spoilt by this very poor response from Raj Park's management.I would NEVER EVER stay there again.

Well, if you want to have a few drinks, chill out with friends and some tasty chicken dish, then this is the place..their Kozhi Varuthacurry is awesome. We go there just to taste this dish...especially during cricket matches / football matches..great place to eat..

Great Room, Good Location, Good Gym, Good Food with good variety, The front desk staff doesn't really give the warm and inviting feeling. Fee Wifi, Free Breakfast, Pool on roof was ok but I did not use it since I did not see any movement of water. Hotel driver to the airport was the only terrible part. Instead of getting the four hours I paid for, he had me at the airport in 1 hour and fifteen minutes then he started asking for a tip before we ever got to the airport. He was rude. Use a tour company and the Tuk-Tuk drivers instead.

I was in Chennai on business and my client had booked at this hotel. The best thing about this hotel is its location. Not far from the airport, close to several eating places and other shops, this is a great advantage.

However, the rooms and the ambience need improvement. The airconditioning was a big problem and some of my colleagues had to change their rooms disturbing their sleep in the middle of the night. It would have been sensible for the staff to have been proactive about it and offered alternate rooms to those affected!

The rooms were also rather small and crampy.

The service and food quality were just about OK.

With a little bit more attention to these details, the hotel could be a more attractive choice for travellers to Chennai.

I stayed overnight at Hotel Raj Park, Chennai on business trip along with a colleague…the property, touted as 'a business hotel with class' on TTK Road is located at the heart of Chennai around 10 kms. from the airport. Considering the traffic mess caused by Metro Rail construction in the city, one can still reach the hotel within 30-40 minutes from the airport. The main hotel building with seven storeys has a conference room (AC) and a banquet hall (non-AC) located at the seventh floor. Raj Park also accommodates guest in its annexe located in an adjoining plot. The annexe boasts of a swimming pool at its terrace on 5th. floor.

I was allotted a 'Corporate' room (tariff: Rs.4900/- inclusive of taxes as corporate discounted price) on the third floor…the room was spacious and reasonably clean with good quality linens, twin beds and a large LCD TV. The bathroom with quality plumbing fittings was large enough to accommodate a bathtub. Some of the 'Executive' category rooms in the hotel had a very cramped toilet, as experienced by my colleague.

While the hotel amenities generally lived up to the expectations, the same cannot be said about its restaurant. We had lunch at the hotel's only restaurant, 'Silver Streak'. It had a long menu listing all possible North & South Indian, Continental as well as Chinese cuisines of both veg & non-veg varieties. We had ordered one plate each of steamed rice (Rs.100/-), tadhka dal fry (Rs.180/-), subzi jal frezi (Rs.200/-) and green salad (Rs.130/-)…the portions served were generous in quantity but the preparations were nothing great to write home about and they appeared a little too pricey! A bottle of lager beer (650 ml) would have left us poorer by Rs.250/-!

The breakfast served at Silver Streak on the next morning had a large spread spanning from fresh fruits, juices, cornflakes, 3-4 types of bread with jams & preserves, eggs (boiled & scrambled), chicken sausages, sautéed Brussels sprouts, hash brown potato etc. along with the local varieties like dosa, idli, vadas, suji khichdi etc.

Raj park is an amazing place to stay in. The rooms are very comfortable, and room service is prompt. The breakfast spread is great and the gym is well equipped. It is located at the heart of chennai and places of interest are close by.

This hotel is on a busy smaller street that has mostly residential buildings with commercial storefronts. The rooms overall were reasonably clean and comfortable with a somewhat modern decor. The air conditioning worked well (important in July) and there were plenty of outlets in the room. It had a flat panel TV with standard definition service but there were with many channels. The staff was attentive and courteous. We had multiple dinners and breakfasts from the hotel restaurant and food was good. The chef was often visible and concerned that we would enjoy the food. There is a bar on the basement level.

The pool is on the roof of an adjoining building and was somewhat small and seemed a bit murky. We were part of a larger group and I didn't really hear much in the way of complaints. Overall we would recommend this hotel.
