“Delicious Bengali food at an unbeatable price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

If you are Bengali (or Odia neighbors like me) then you will surely love the food at this place. Sree Annapurna is offers some honest Bengali non vegetarian cuisine at very reasonable prices. This place does not have a great ambience, is small and crowded, and does not offer a fine dining experience. What it does offer is great food, which is why people from Bengal and also other East Indian States flock to this restaurant on weekends. If you can't read Bengali then you may not be able to read the entire menu which is put up on a board with most of the dishes written in Bengali. But ask one of the waiters and he will read it out for you. If you want to avoid the crowd then you can always get the food parceled without waiting for long. But do try this place out if you like or want to experience non vegetarian Bengali cuisine.

“great place to taste authentic bengali dishes.......”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

Sree Annapurna of Calcutta is an authentic Bengali Restaurant. You will find mostly Bengali people gathered around.Everything inside the restaurant is maintained in Bengali Culture, everyone inside speaks Bengali, even the Menu is also displayed in a board written in Bengali.Food is very good,if not great.price is also on the cheaper side.If you are from the Eastern part of India specially Kolkata & are messed up with the South Indian Dishes,a wonderful place to visit& try Bengali foods, specially the fishes. However,it is a pretty small Restaurant so is mostly crowded. It is very closely located to Police Commissioner's Office in Egmore & is approx. 1.8-2 kms from Central Railway Station.

“Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2012

This is one of the best resturant at chennai for Bengali food(various fishes and other chicken/Mutton items) at resonable(rather cheaper) price. But the service quality and ambience are poor. Its totally crowded in sunday lunchtime. So better go before 12.15 pm or little earlier on sunday lunch. Here "Vetki Paturi" you will like for sure. Other items youcan try "Chingrir Bati chorchori",Pabda,Pomphlet,Doi-Rui,parse,... etc. The resturant is just few steps far from Eggmore Police Commissioner office.

“Excellent Bengali Restaurant in Chennai”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2012

Annapurna is the Best Bengali Restaurant in Chennai. Ambiance is not so good, however food is Excellent. Service is quite bad as you may have to wait more then you expected.

Their foods will remind you about your home (Foods made by your mother). Specially if you are home sick or Staying in Hostel/PG and missing Bengali foods, Annapurna will be the best choice for you. Even it will be good restaurant for Other East Indian's too (Bihar, Orissa, Jharkhand etc). If you are a East Indian and missing your home badly then you can try this restaurant. But the menu is written in Bengali in a white board. So if you don't know Bengali then you need help from waiters to understand what it is. Not a problem for Bengali People. I have visited this restaurant many time since 2005. In my college days whenever i miss my home or Bengali foods, i used to visit Annapurna. However now i use to prepare foods in my Home by my own, But still in special occasions like Naba barsha (Bengali New Year) i used to visit Annapurna. Even sometime for some changes i used to visit there. I liked it. Whatever other says, but If you are a Bengali then it will be Best choice for you. Because you won't find any other Good Bengali Restaurant in Chennai (In Sowcarpet you will find few Bengali restaurant but those are dirty and not up to the mark).

Fully Bengali Culture, Everyone work here is Bengali. It will remind you about your home. Even you can find Bengali Newspapers like Ananda Bazzar Patrika, Magazines like Anandalok, Sananda etc in the Pan Stall outside Annapurna (You can have Bengali/Kolkata Sweet Pan).

Its in Egmore, Very close to Egmore Railway Station and beside Egmore Police Commissioner Office. This restaurant is a Great choice for Bengali peoples.
