“Economical, Conveinient and Safe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

I have stayed in this hotel for nearly 2 months in April 2006 and now will close to 3 weeks at the end of my planned stay. Though it lacks the aesthetic appeal as a hotel it is an excellent place for students and the like who don't mind not having a swimming pool or a fancy coffee-shop. The management are two brothers who are always at hand during daytime and are very friendly. In fact there are no airs about anyone here. The room staff are the same as I have seen six years back; and that speaks volumes of their trustworthiness and committment. I never bothered to lock anything up in the safe, currency, T/Cs or any valuble documents such as the Passport. Never have lost anything... I have always taken a Non A/C room as the climate from where I come from (Sri Lanka) is only slightly milder than Chennai... and most of the day I spend in the comfort of and Air-Conditioned class room at Collage. However, Chennai could be hot and humid so guests from cooler climes are advised to book an A/C Room... As a non-vegetarian the vegan restaurent below has little attraction to me... but one could find enough restaurents around the place and more over the room boys are experts in getting you the right food if you could handle the local culinary jargon. Room Tip: Rooms 113 to 119 are located above an open court yard where the boys from the adjoining restarent sl...

Located just opposite to The saravana stores at Purusawalkam, it is convenient to reach all the common examination centers at this part of the city from here. This is a budjet hotel and we were checked in to a room in the first floor as per the reservation made earlier over phone. However the manager was so nice to inform us that for a marginally higher place the rooms at the ground floor would be more suitable for us. The room we got then, had all the basic amenities and very very comfortable bedding. The staff helped us in all our requirements politely and efficiently and even extended our check out time for our convenience till our exams were over and did not charge a penny extra. The Veg restraunt, also a part of the hotel served excellent food both north indian and soth indian in a very clean environment. After 2 days of stay, we were all thanks to the manager and staff for the sensibilty and eagerness they showed to treat their guests well.

Room Tip: Take rooms of the ground floor. They are well maintained and costs only odd 18k

Plenty of thanks for the staff and management - there was no problem that could not be solved. Great south Indian breakfasts and dinners available in reasonable prices, in conditions expected by western tourists (bottled water, cutlery, clean and bright interior).
We haven't checked the location before booking, so we got surprised with distance to train station, but station and the sea side. Our mistake.

Never again! I booked in advance by email. At night, by 1 clock I arrived. from the outside does not look like a hotel. it recognizes only one plate. you have a driveway.
The Reception Manager explained to me the price had hoped yesterday elevated, even though I had the confirmation email here!!
The room smelled pungent, dirty, old, deteriorated.
No sleep, is located on a noisy high street, the next day immediately checked out, not the staff / manager was considered trustworthy, be carefully, cheated!

We booked through cleartrip.com and found this hotel under our budget. We have stayed in few other hotels of this range and they are very basic but clean and you cannot complain for the price. But Melody is at a very bad location and the rooms are very old and filthy.. do not consider this hotel unless you have visited here before booking and okay with its conditions. May be if you visit here in-person you get a much cheaper rate for the room condition..
