My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights as we travelled through Rajasthan, India and loved it. A beautiful heritage hotel and well maintained. The exterior of the building had beautiful paintings on the walls, with patio areas on each floor for you to sit, relax and do some reading. The bedrooms were spacious and traditionally designed with amazing wooden doors and shutters adding to the ambience, our bed was a four poster. The bathroom was older but clean, with running hot water. Our room was up 3 flights of stairs, but with a porter on hand who wrestles your bags from you to carry them, its not an issue. There is a nice enclosed lawn area where a continental breakfast is served each day and afternoon tea is available also (separate charge). You can also relax and take in the hot sun. The front desk has stamps for sale and posted our postcards for us. The hotel is on a small road close to a main road area where there is easy access to autorickshaws and the drivers can find the hotel easily enough, which is key. There is a small walled pool, which we didn't try out as too exhausted from our days of sightseeing. We also did not eat in the restaurant. Room service prices seemed expensive. But recommend staying here.

We have stayed here four times and hope to go again.
The owners are charming and manage the hotel personally and carefully and with great efficiency.
It is clean, safe, secure and very good value for money.
We have no hesitation in recommending Madhuban Hotel.

After having read previous positive reviews issued through TripAdvisor, we decided to book Hotel Madhuban while staying in Jaipur. From the minute we stepped out of the Jaipur airport, the services of the hotel AMAZED US. The most kindest driver from the hotel picked us up, Sher Singh, and took us to the hotel. Based on the cost of the hotel, we were not expecting a lot, however when we pulled up to the hotel, we were blown away. The hotel was nestled behind a high wall and the minute you walked through the gates, you could feel the authenticity of the hotel. We were greeted by Mrs Singh, owner of the hotel, and she was very kind and quick to ensure we got settled in. The owners of the hotel were present on the property at all times and well it felt like we were guests at their home. Our room was clean and overlooked the city-beautiful view. We were able to book driver Sher Singh for our 2 days that we were there and he was so kind to accomodate all of our travel needs-excellent tour guide. Excellent hotel, more than what one could expect!

My husband, daughter and I stayed here for 3 nights in December, and had a very good experience. I was a bit wary since Rajasthan is so heavily touristy that it was an act of faith to pick a hotel. This was a great pick. Quiet, super clean, efficient and cute...our 9-year-old loved it! We were slated to stay there again on our final night in Rajasthan, but had to cancel because of illness and an earlier departure, but they couldn't have been nicer about it. They also trustingly lent us their Lonely Planet Rajasthan guide (we had left ours at home in Hyderabad by accident); and we made sure to return it on our way to the airport. Other hotels we picked in Rajasthan were Jagat Niwas in Udaipur (good value); Krishna Prakash Heritage Haveli in Jodhpur (nice people, but grotty...look for details under the listing); and Hotel Bundi Haveli in Bundi (overpriced and somewhat clueless, but a nice place). However, the Madhuban was wonderful with the cancellation of their room for our last night in Rajasthan, ...completely professional and understanding of our emergency.
I always think that there is nothing worse on vacation than being sick in a strange place, and when you have a little kid unable to keep a tsp of water down, this adds a new dimension of fear. It's never happened before, but it certainly makes one grateful for every bit of consideration shown to one in the circumstances!

“Very disappointing.”

Madhuban Hotel

Apr 5, 2008

My family visited India this year for the first time. We were lucky enough to spend almost 3 months in this amazing country. There are too many highlights to mention but by far our favorite places were in Rajasthan. We loved Udaipur, Jaisalmer and Jaipur. We stayed in a variety of places from luxury 5 star hotels to small heritage havelis. We were thrilled with all of our accommodation except for 1 place in Jaipur where we stayed for two nights (two too many!). At first sight, Madhuban appeared to be a charming place. The building is quite lovely with a very pretty garden and a small pool. The pool was not clean and there was nowhere comfortable to sit around it. The rooms are small but clean -except I found a previous guest's underwear under the bed! Our bed was very hard. The staff with one or two exceptions are miserable. They are very unfriendly and almost angry when asked for anything. One waiter repeatedly walked away while we were giving him our food orders and when we eventually (it took ages) did get our food the order was incorrect. When we complained there was no apology and we never received the correct order. The food is not worth waiting for. It was by far the worst food we had in any hotel in India and my husband and son got sick after eating there. (They both ate a rice and chicken dish). We ate the breakfast buffet twice which was pretty disappointing. The fruit (papaya) was unripe. The eggs cold and rubbery and the fried bread (pakora) greasy. I asked for a fork and it was handed to me by the wrong end. (the waiter held the fork end!) It is very obvious the staff are not trained to deal with foreign guests which is most definetely the fault of the management. The internet did not work on the two occasions we attempted to use it and 1 morning we had no hot water. The owners of the hotel live on the premises but are not very friendly. It feels as though this hotel is purely a business for them and they are not in the slightest bit interested in the level of service or their guests' comfort. Fortunately, Jaipur is a marvelous city with many interesting places to visit including, City Palace, Amber Fort and Jantar Mantar - a three hundred year old observatory (our favorite). I felt compelled to write this review because our experience at this hotel was exceptionally different from any of the other incredible places we stayed in India. If you haven't been to India, you absolutely must!
