“pleasant stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

We stayed at Umaid Bhawan over New Year's Eve and it was a pleasant experience. The staff was helpful, the rooms were spacious and comfortable (we even had heating), and the whole experience was quite positive. The terraced structure of the hotel is original and enjoyable, except when it is noisy. Breakfast is fine, if rather slow. So a recommended hotel, overall!

reasonably clean. spacious, unique set up of the hotel, and interesting decorations. I guess it was sort of a very cheap imitation of a castle. to some degree it did the trick. ok for the price (3.5 stars).

location is good. far enough to be quite, and short rickshaw/taxi to MI road for local food.
free internet was adequate. breakfast was not. the hot food was just warmish. the burners under the pots where not on all the time, and that is risky and compromising behaviour by the hotel staff. so I ate just safe things (toast), which were not sufficient.

The hotel is quite well located and not too far away from the main sightseeing places. The staff, including the owners, are extremely helpful and will go out of their way to make sure you have a comfortable stay! We really liked the hotel and will come back in a heart beat. They had music and dance going on at the rooftop to watch and was an absolute delight!

We stayed here in December, and this is one amazing place! Large, clean and attractive rooms, great beds and very nice staff. We ate all our dinners on the roof terrace and the food was very good. The breakfast was also quite OK. The hotel was cozy decorated for Christmas, and we got great help at the reception when we booked sightseeing. I can recommend this hotel highly!

Beautiful end to our Rajasthan trip! What an amazing experience in this heritage hotel ! All the previous reviews on the nice things in this hotel are true - the ambience, the old worldly charm, regal elegance and the sense of grandeur. We stayed in the Royal Suite, with our own private balcony and different chambers. Plenty of photo opportunities available. Service is fine, could be improved upon. Restaurant is quite good, but meal portions are small/prices on the higher side for such portions. The menu is rather limited though as is the menu for the package breakfast. Very few authentic Rajasthani dishes on the menu, but the ones on it are quite good.

Room Tip: Book Royal Suites; make sure you explore all floors and all nooks and corners of the hotel.

My husband and I stayed here, and it was a lovely room.. The staff in the restaurant were great if my husband with me, but if I went up alone, they ignored me.. For over an hour I waited just to see if they would even offer me a menu or even a glass of water. Wasnt impressed by the fact that when my husband came up after his nap, they all snapped to and were in a flurry of service. The room however is incredible and quiet and very secure. Spotless and beautifully decorated. The lady manager rides a firm hand on the running of the hotel, her staff in the restaurant need training in dealing with women however .We will stay again if ever in Jaipur.. as it is good value and the rooms are grand.. The only downside to the room which we had at poolside was the recurring puppet show that happened each time a guest checked in.. the reverberations from this show was quaint at first but soon became rather annoying.

We stayed at Umaid Bhawan for 3 nights in Jan 2013. I was very excited to stay at the hotel because the website gallery pictures looked wonderful! However, I think the photos are nicer than the actual rooms. The rooms looked bigger in the photos, but in actual it was a bit dark and small. The staff, however, are very accommodating and helpful. We requested them twice to change our rooms because we weren't happy with it (construction noise) and they did so! We also requested the manager to drop us to the the train station and they were kind enough to do that. Though the rooms had character in them, it was still very basic for a heritage hotel and a little over priced. The breakfast that's included is also not so great... They really need to improve on that. But the terrace at the top is magical. You should eat up there for sure!

Room Tip: Second floor rooms are quieter. Corner rooms on the side of the lift are sunnier.
