Don't miss it. Every bit as good as described by others, Escher like. Truly special. Got some great pics of the kids diving and swimming

“Very cool step well!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014 via mobile

I had seen the step well in Ahmedabad, and this one was just as impressive. The architecture was different. Very easy to reach from the Fort and well worth the visit.

“Unique hidden well - don't miss it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2014

It is easy to reach from the Amber fort. A 5 min drive from the rear entrance which is the one taken by vehicles to the fort.

Seems like this one is a hidden gem which has hardly any tourists at all. The entry is through narrow bylanes & it is easy to see that it isn't frequented by tourists at all. Our driver was surprised when I said I wanted to visit this one & he claimed he has never seen any non-local tourist visit it.

Coming to the actual attraction itself, it doesn't seem to be well-maintained. Which is a surprise because Abhaneri wells which are at a 2 hr drive from Jaipur are extremely famous. Seems like Panna Meena wells should have been more frequented because they are so close to Amber fort which is on every tourists' itinerary.

It is a unique criss-cross structure which is quite deep, but is filled with stagnant water. One can ponder at it and try to imagine the logic behind the geometry. I found it very fascinating & very peaceful as it is away from the hordes of tourists. Wish it were renovated a bit more.

Do visit, even if for a 10 minute halt en-route to the Amber fort.

“Lovely peaceful site”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2014

I was not familiar with step wells and was stunned by the geometric complexity and beauty of this site. Only one or two people there - hidden gem! The temple just above is lovely too - lots of elephant carvings and a view down on the village.

“Hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2014

We wanted to see thus having read about it online. My family and i stopped off here on the way to Amber fort.

Whilst the step well has seen better days I like the slightly distressed and lived in look of the place.

The step well has eight flights of steps down to the water level and has a raised platform and square adjacent.

The water in the well was full of algae - not pleasant to look at, though there were fish in the water so it was more wholesome than it looked.

The whole area around the step well is full of historic buildings, and the city walls on the surrounding hills. As an added bonus we were the only people there, really tranquil.

Well worth a visit if you like history and historic buildings.
