“A must visit.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2014

Love this fort. The palace is huge and amazing. You can ride up the hill on a jeep, on an elephant or on your own transport. For a mere INR200 for foreigners, this gem of a place is a must visit while you are in Jaipur. Take your own time enjoying the architecture and the beauty of the fort.

“Main fort of Jaipur”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2014

This is a well maintained fort with some very nice views from it. Don't miss the hall of mirrors. It can be a bit of a labyrinth with many rooms and corridors. As with other monuments in India, many of the rooms are unfurnished and can be a bit boring. To reach the fort you can take an elephant ride but I chose to pass on that as the elephants seemed pretty tired and unhappy. From Amber Fort it's possible to reach Jaigargh Fort by taking the road the snakes up the hill or going part of the way through the secret passage that is located near the exit. It takes about 20 min to reach Jaigargh Fort and there are also golf carts available if you're not up for the climb.

Amber Fort is part of the typical tourist itinerary of Jaipur which also includes City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal and Jal Mahal. The average rickshaw price for this is 500 Rs. but it can also be done by public bus. The No. 5 and AC1 Red Buses leave from Ajmeri gate, and the No. 5 also has a station at the Hawa Mahal. They both go to Amber Fort stopping at Jal Mahal on the way. A ticket costs 15 Rs. to Amber Fort or 10 Rs. to Jal Mahal and can be bought inside the bus. In my opinion, the bus is more confortable than a rickshaw and you also avoid unwanted stops at shops.

Terrible journey to get there, heavy traffic, but it was a weekend, the sight is a real jaw dropper, we avoided to elephant ride up to the frt as i have a dodgy back, took the jeep - not much better !!, mnaged to get many great photos , a real good start of our Rajasthan visit

“Elephant ride”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2014

The fort is great, but the best part is riding an elephant up to the gates. Just beware. They will be after you for a tip before you get inside, since they aren't supposed to take any.
