This site is absolutely amazing. It's the second time I've been there and it still takes your breath away. If you do nothing else in Jaipur, make sure you see the Amber Fort and Palace

“Scenic view from the fort”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Very nice view from this fort. A lake can be seen and part of city. On the other side you can see the walls stretching across the mountain top. You can also see a fort from this place.
Elephant ride is very expensive.

“Amazing!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

Amazing Fort, large, hilly and interesting, coffee available, Elephants can give you a lift up, but we didn't take that option. Spent a couple of hours exploring on our own, we probably would have learn't more if we'd had a guide but like to do thing on our own. Just thinking about how this place was built is mind boggling!

“Amber Fort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

This is a very interesting fort with some great views of the surrounding land. You can hire a guide when you get there, take an audio tour, and just wander around on your own. I would really recommend parking at the bottom and taking the elephant ride to the top. The whole place is kind of like one giant maze. You can wander around looking at things for hours and have no idea where you are! There are even monkeys hanging around all over the place! At the end of the tour/path, there is some shopping if you want some souvenirs. Be aware that they know you are a tourist and are going to charge western prices. No good deals here.

You have to pay to go here. You can buy a pass to go just here for about 200 Rs, or for 300 Rs you can buy a two day pass that gets you into here, Hawa Mahal and Jantar Mantar, and two other places that I can't remember.

“Elephant ride and nice Fort Palace”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

A good friend recommended me to visit Jaipur and told me the drive from Delhi is just 5 hours. After 7 hours drive.....!!!! I riched Amber Fort and took the elephant ride on the cobbledstone way to the fort. Greate experiance to enjoy and felling as a real Maharaja.
The palace site was built arround year 1650 same period as the Taj Mahal in Agra. However it is a big difference between the two - the marble screens with inlaid flowers and the carved relief panels of Taj Mahal are much more atractive compared to the Amber paintures on the pink lime and mortar walls. However this is a nice place to visit in Jaipur. The view from the Fort is amazing and the mirrors chamber is interesting. I assume the mirrors sent from Belgium broked during the long transportation......but the architects of Jaipur found a successful improvisation !!!
