“Oasis in Jaipur”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

Due to a poor hotel selection by an unprofessional tourist travel agent, we moved hotels to Mandawa Haveli where we were warmly welcomed by Viccas on arrival. From the street you would not believe what was behind the fence, total contrast.

Green grass, water feature, calm, quiet garden and refreshing pool! Haveli is an old mansion with many rooms converted for hotel type accom. This one is a beautiful example. Room was huge, the bathroom alone was bigger than many hotel rooms. Great water pressure, hot water comfortable bed, spotlessly clean linen - actually everything spotless.

It was very quiet not many people staying at this time, staff were professional and friendly and attentive to our needs. We booked massage, which meant bring people in from outside. This was not so good, 1250rupee, dingy room, and a bit of oil and patting, no substance to that massage unfortunately.

We do absolutely recommend the Mandawa Haveli though!

We stayed here for 3 nights and absolutely loved this haveli style hotel. It really gave us the flavour of Jaipur and Rajastan that we were looking for. Lovely big spacious rooms (we had a suite), clean, beautifully decorated. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating to our needs - we were three in a room so we got a big double bed, and a fold bed - there was lots of room in the suite, not cramped at all.

This hotel was lovely. My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights during our tour of India and loved it. Unlike the other hotels we has stayed in the Mandawa Haveli was set in beautiful grounds where you could relax in the evenings after the long/hot days sightseeing. The hotel was nicely tucked away from the hustle and bustle of everything.

We thoroughly enjoyed the alfresco dining at the hotel restaurant, it was a lovely way to end the day. The food (especially the buffet) and service was also great and we could not have asked for more. There was also an evening puppet show to see each evening where the staff would also talk to guests about the craftsmanship involved in making the puppets, which is held outside in the gardens.

Our room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was especially large! Although simple in its decoration it had everything we could have wanted. One drawback to the room was that there was no safe. However there is only one room key which stayed with us during our time there.

We didn’t use the pool whilst staying at the hotel, however it did look lovely :0)

Once we got to the hotel we were very warmly welcomed. One of the receptionists took us around the hotel and showed us our room. We were quite surprised by the size of the room as it was very spacious and yet equipped with everything. The room gave a feeling like we were living in the past like kings. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the service was very personalized just like the food. The menu choices was very vast and very delicious. Overall i would recommend anybody visiting Jaipur to stay in the Mandawa Haveli. It is definitely a choice you wont regret.

When we arrived at the hotel we thought that we would be staying in the slum. But that's India. Slum is always right next door. Fortunately the hotel is a small oasis of tranquility and good ambience, in an otherwise congested and crowded city. We stayed for two nights during the Diwali festival. The city was sooo busy. The hotel is nicely located close to the Pink City (old town) and the City Palace and other interesting landmarks. Just a 20 minute drive to the Amber Fort. The hotel is a Haveli which makes it all about feel and authenticity and nill about amneties. Room we stayed in was very big and so was the bathroom.
We really enjoyed our stay here. Probably even more so because the city is so crowded. When you sit in the courtyard and eat you feel relieved and don't really sense the stress of the streets and the slum that surrounds you. The staff was very friendly and the food also quite good. Breakfast buffet was also pretty good for this standard hotel.
I highy recommend this hotel if you are looking for authenticity and good no frills value in Jaipur.

A narrow alley access off a scruffy street doesn't augur well, but the alley opens onto lawns and cane-chair filled verandahs, which take you back 100 years. The rooms are very comfortable, with dramatic pillared bathrooms! OK the bath didn't work but let's not nit pick! More importantly the TV and WIFI didn't work, but did on my second night. Meals were pleasant and served in the open air. I liked it and while it would take a lot to get me back to India, this hotel would be on my list of havens.

When we first pulled off the street, we were thinking...WHERE THE HECK ARE WE? It is off a very busy street in Jaipur with lots of action all night! But when you pull in, there is a wonderful courtyard surrounded by what used to be a home of a king's son. Interesting story. Food was good. Lots of non Indian options for those with Delhi Belly! Staff in restaurant was superior. Staff in office okay. Had hard time getting change for larger rupee bills. When going to India, make sure you get most of your rupees in nothing larger than 100s. Nobody will make change! Three of us traveling together and got a sweet room...very large, big living area, big private patio, big bathroom. Only complaint was the 5 a.m. Call to prayer from the mosque next door. Woke us up both mornings. Neighborhood is sketchy, but hotel quite charming.

Room Tip: Remember, your standards of CLEAN, may not be the same in as India!!!
