“Charming hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

This was the best hotel we stayed in on our entire India-trip. Location was good, staff was friendly, but the best is the decoration: you fell like in an old Mogul-palace. Here, you will definetely feel like you are in India.

I loved staying at Bissau Palace. We were picked up in an old Ambassador, and the whole experience of staying here is of old grandeur. The palace is beautifully decorated, with traditional painting, textiles, and furniture everywhere. My husband and I had a garden room on the ground floor. The room was a good size, with a separate dressing area, and a nice bathroom. It was very clean. At night there were ants crawling about, but they didn't come anywhere near the furniture, and didn't bother us. There was an a/c unit, and a strong ceiling fan, so we were cool enough in the summer heat. The main attraction of the hotel is the general ambiance - it is a real peaceful oasis in the hustle and bustle of the old town. All of the staff were lovely, and the service was top notch. We had breakfast in the restaurant, which is stunning, and the food is nice enough. There are shops in the grounds, where you can buy e.g. traditional paintings by the same people who decorate the rooms. There is also a nice swimming pool. I wish we could have stayed longer than 2 nights (we were on a whistlestop G Adventures tour), and spent more time just soaking up the atmosphere, and enjoying the grounds. I would recommend Bissau Palace for a relaxing, holiday feel, a taste of old India, and as a characterful base for exploring Jaipur.

I stayed here for two nights on a tour of Rajasthan with a group. My room was disappointing and very dark. The atmosphere in the hotel itself though was good with a nice square of seating in the reception area. It is in a good location to explore Jaipur and there are plenty of tuk tuks should you need them. The food was good.

We stayed here as part of an Intrepid tour. It is a beautiful old palace with great character and history. The live music in the foyer at night was a bonus. rooms were spacious and clean. food was good.

My husband and I stayed at the Bissau Palace in February, 2013, and had the most wonderful time! One evening at dinner we ordered ice cream and were told you did not have it and yet someone went to the store and bought some ice cream so we would have some. The brothers playing music just outside the dining room were so sweet and amazing. We enjoyed sitting on the sofa after dinner and listening to them for the 2 nights we were there. We stayed in the little cottage in the garden which was just adorable. All of our experience at the Bissau Palace was just amazing! We told people in India about it and also here in the USA. We highly recommend Bissau Palace and we are telling everyone about what a wonderful time we had! Thank you again so much!

The lower floors of this city residence are the hotel and it is a good place to stay.
Granted the rooms need to be updated in terms of some amenities, but it is still a comfortable enough..
Our room was huge and full of genuine period furniture and other fittings, but I weigh 100 kg so the mattress needed to be thicker and firmer.
The Lobby and Dining areas are especially attractive. I watched an artist refurbish the columns in the lobby, it was one of the best experiences that I had in India. The skill and speed of this man as he repainted the intricate detail on the support column was truly amazing.
Management needs to be congratulated on ensuring this maintenance work is carried out, now get the rooms up to that standard and you would have an excellent hotel.
The memorabilia is the stand out feature of this hotel and it is worth it just to see a part of northern India's history.
I was there in late April and it was hot, so the pool was welcome and I had to get out periodically and warm up, great!
It is hard to believe that you walk through the front gate and enter an oasis of calm after the frenetic street life of Jaipur.
It is an easy walk to the City Palace, the Jantar Mantar and the Hawa Mahal so do consider this hotel if you intend to stay in Jaipur. If I can go back to Jaipur, then this is where I would choose to stay.
On a pragmatic note the meals are good and reasonably priced, I did enjoy the choice at the buffet breakfast and the evening meals were also very good.

Room Tip: Rooms near the pool face onto a lovely grassed area, and well shaded in the heat of the day.

First impressions are fantastic - the public areas are beautifully maintained. The hand painted lobby, library and restaurant are very atmospheric and packed with historical artefacts. It was a bit like stepping into a museum!

Food was excellent, but service a bit slow.

The rooms are all uniquely decorated - ours was pink, with huge comfy single beds. However some of the details let the place down. The aircon was noisy - so much so we turned it off to sleep. And our bathroom was quite dirty, with brown stains around the bath/shower.

We also had an interesting run in with an eccentric but intimidating man who claimed he was the manager, but who was so drunk I'm not sure he really knew who he was! He interrupted and spoilt a quiet girly drink by rambling incoherently and aggressively at us. In the end we just downed our drinks and escaped to our rooms!

Overall though, I think this place is worth staying in as it's so atmospheric - just make sure you see your room first and avoid drunk, rambling man in the evenings!
