“Heritage Hotel, Slow Service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012 via mobile

We stayed in this hotel as part of our Explore tour of Northern India. The hotel is an old palace and is soaked in history, with painted murals everywhere including the bedrooms. The hotel has free wifi, but it is restricted to around the reception area, rooms were spacious (we had room 209) with ceiling fan and an old AC unit. The menu was limited with only half of what was advertised being available, breakfast was very disorganised and resembled a Benny Hill sketch and the service was slow. Swimming pool was also available.

I loved this place; it has 'character'. The common areas, like the sitting room, are done up in an over the top way as one Hollywood might picture an Indian hotel during the Raj. My room was smallish, electrical fittings were a challenge, the door jammed, and yes ants and hoppers trailed across the floor. No complaints. I'd go back.

The hotel is located just outside the old-Jaipur (pink city). You can go by walk to the bazaar in the pink city.
Nice welcome, friendly. Breakfast was ok, dinner was good, but nothing special.
They also have a clean pool, which is a nice refreshment after a warm day in India.
Internetconnection available (paying).

I stayed here a few years ago, and really liked it, so when I was travelling to Jaipur again I jumped at the chance to stay here again. Sadly the hotel had gone down hill quite fast. It was dark and dingy and everything needed touching up. The food was ordinary, and the gardens were not as beautiful as they used to be. I wouldn't stay there again.

We stayed here for two nights during our Golden Triangle Tour. It is very centrally located, but a haven away from the madness of Jaipur. The decor is amazing and there is shops, etc in the grounds. The pool was nice and we got some massages done while we were there for a very reasonable price. It also has free wifi which was great.

Room Tip: room 10 was amazing, but in the courtyard which meant that you could be disturbed by late night gues...

I have been coming to Bissau Palace for some years now and everytime I arrive it is like home away from home. The staff are friendly (especially the Nepalis), the rooms are a bit of a hit and miss (some are great, a few are just acceptable - so have a look around before you commit). I really like the 'old world charm' of Bissau Palace, I mean, which hotel features a glitzy glass dining room and painted walls all over?
A couple of years ago they added a small swimming pool, which is a very nice touch indeed!
Good hotel, love to come again!

It is a beautiful place and rooms too. But what you get does not justify the cost. The budget room is ok. But additional facilities were lacking (the coffee shop and the restaurant were closed; the pool is not well-maintained, buffet breakfast so-so, no telephone in the room). The service is not well organized with much staff but lack of coordination (for instance we ordered a taxi from the desk, which the travel agency person denied the next day, yet the hotek driver was waiting for us...).
Plus, the location is a little problematic: one has to walk shortly through a narrow, dirty, crowded street in a very popular area where young boys were a little of a pain, making fun of trying to touch us, so I would not recommend it for ladies or foreigners travelling by themselves.
