“Travel like royalty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

If you are in Jaipur do not miss the opportunity to have a few nights at this magnificient hotel in Jaipur. It was a royal palace many years ago and has now been taken over by the Taj group. It still has the feel of being in a palace and you are certainly treated like royalty. The food is amazing with many options.

Room Tip: All of the rooms were amazing. You will not be disappointed.

We spent three nights in a Historical Suite. What a beautiful accommodation including our own private terrace. The hotel itself is gorgeous and immaculate. The grounds are expansive and beautifully maintained. The pool area was wonderful as was the service around the pool including beverage and food service. All the staff were exceptional. Dining was wonderful including an ample breakfast with everything you could want. We had pizza in Steam one night for a break from Indian food and it was quite good. We had dinner another night in the deluxe Indian restaurant and it was a feast with wonderful food, service and atmosphere. The thrid night we had a light meal outside watching the musicians. While we were there the Prime Minister of Pakistan was there which required hightened security but it was handled so professionally that it was totally unobtrusive to the other guests. This has to be one of the top hotels in the worls and I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else in Jaipur.

Beautiful suite & lovely hotel grounds, I simply can not find fault with this place. The service is impeccable as the staff certainly go out of the way to please you as if you are the maharajah. Be sure to take a ride in the vintage car or watch the peacocks dance in the hotel garden. The Indian dancers in the evening are also delightful to watch.

I celebrated a "significant" birthday on a fantastic "Odyssey's Unlimited" trip to "Magical India" (Check them out, they are great!). The hotel was was a real trip back to "The Raj"; comfortable and relaxing. Good rooms, nice food, and the usual Indian hospitality. Very nice.

As in the other Taj hotels where we stayed their staff are really excellent. We were greeted with the rose petal shower and flower garlands on arrival, then a seamless check-in in our room. On departure were presented with a photo of the welcome event as well as some mirror coasters. Abercrombie and Kent was our tour provider in India and we were always happy with the rooms allocated to us in each hotel (we chose their Platinum option bespoke tour and were very pleased with it.). In some Taj hotels we were upgraded to a suite, but this did not happen at Rambagh Palace - yet we liked our large room on a higher floor (Palace Room) with window seat and view of the pretty courtyard. The man with the canvas bird flag continuously flapped it to scare away the pigeons; it makes a really loud bang which startles till you realise what caused it. The room however was quiet, whereas I noticed some rooms/suites were on the same level as the restaurants and shops, so perhaps these might be affected by people passing by. Our room had a decent-sized sitting area, walk-in wardrobe and a pretty bathroom with mirror tiles (which will remind you of the mirrored room at the Amber Fort). It had all the comfortable amenities that you would expect. We were there three nights - enjoyed a few meals at the Verandah restaurant, including one dinner where we had an great view of the Indian dancers and a tasty BBQ-style meal. The Polo Bar is an excellent place for pre-dinner drinks and they serve nice canapés. We also chose to eat dinner here one night after we had a large lunch at Dera Amer, where we took an elephant “safari”. Some light bites are available in the Polo Bar – and try the non-alcoholic ginger beer. Otherwise we ate breakfasts (and one dinner) in the Rajput Room, where you could have Indian as well as Continental food. Breakfast was buffet style and a la carte options as well - and very good; the dinner was nothing extraordinary but the service was excellent and very friendly. The public areas in the hotel are attractive, and we liked the painted hallways outside our room, and the beautiful flower arrangements everywhere. Of course, as elsewhere, we did not like the internet charge – and the high alcohol prices. Nevertheless, this is a wonderful place to stay.

The hotel was superb. we were upgraded to an historical suite with a separate lounge and private patio - nice touch. Superb grounds too, excellently maintained, calm and a joy to wander about.

As expected from the Taj Hotel Group the standard was excellent. we ate in two restaurants. the first , 'Steam', was an old railway carriage where we had an excellent pizza. The second was the indian fine dining restaurant with its superb decor and gold plate (including the cutlery). the food was very good and well worth the visit.

The only negative comment I would make is charging for Internet use, which is increasingly against the trend. There's little excuse these days for charging for what is now a day-to-day essential service.

Above all else, the service was first class, the best experienced travels across the globe. There is little doubt that India has superlative service off to a tee, which is partly down to the attitude of the people - positive, willing to help, and infinitely pleasant.

The Maharaja of Jaipur's palace is now one of the most magnificent hotels in the world. The rooms are suites, beautifully appointed, with exceptional views. You feel like a maharaja as you walk through the extensive gardens and the exquisite public areas. Every detail is perfect. Breakfast is a sumptuous spread and the restaurants would tempt any gourmet. The service can't be beat. Highest recommendation.

Room Tip: Any room should be excellent. Our suite was on the ground floor and was great.
