“Agreat place to hang out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2013

We spent two days at this restored 200 year old castle for our family reunion and enjoyed every bit of it. The service was personal. Rooms were exceptional with old glory preserved as it was 200 years ago. Staff and management were always there to help. The access to the castle could be better but once you are there it is great.
Agreat place if you do not mind 18 km from the city center.
Two thumbs up.

Stayed at four different hotels while on this, my first, visit to India. Castle Kalwar was by far my favorite. Outstanding ambience, beautiful grounds and comfortable and amazing rooms. The food was incredible - fresh, homemade, healthy and delicious. Every meal had at least several dishes to choose from and, while requests would be honored for subsequent meals, one of the things I enjoyed most about meals was waiting to be surprised by yet another fantastic Indian dish!
Best of all about Castle Kalwar was the incredible hospitality of the owner, his family and the entire staff. Every detail was graciously attended to. It felt like spending time with a favorite family friend!
My favorite time of day was to step outside on the terrace in the pre-dawn hour and experience the beginning of the day - temple bells, soft chanting, calls of small birds, peacocks and monkeys all added to the experience of peace and wonder.
While it is a short distance from Jaipur, that's also part of the charm. The village of Kalwar was just a short walk from the Castle gate and making purchases from local craftsmen and vendors added to the true experience of India.
Great Stay!!!

Fantastic stay -- the grounds were immaculate and the rooms 'princely.' We heard the whoop of monkeys and the haunting call of peacocks before rising in the morning. The owners, their family and all who worked there were all so gracious and kind -- made us feel very comfortable. They fed us extremely well and explained all of the different Indian dishes -- a foodie's delight!

The only detractor -- there were several problems with the electric power and ants and lizards liked to visit us in our room on a regular basis -- but that's easy to overlook when you're staying in a castle in India -- all part of the adventure!!! I definitely recommend at least one stay in this magical resort.

The places oozes charm! Nestled in a hill, this property has a very lived-in feel to it, which to me was a great part of its charm; so I was rather surprised to learn that the owners had recently conducted extensive renovations to it. To their credit, the dated look & feel of the place has been preserved with great care. The aristocratic owners are courteous in the extreme, so do not forget to pester them for their family recipe of laal-maas, which is to kill for! A trek to the hilltop is also recommended to witness a spectacular sunset.

A perfect place, away from hustle and bustle. A beautiful building and gardens; a gracious host; great service; and healthy, delicious food. Monkeys, peacocks and pigeons among the hollyhocks and bougainvillea. Sounds of temple bells. A microcosm of Rajasthan.
I recommend a stay here.

Wat a place.. what an ambiance. .. I really enjoyed the quite and relaxing mornings. Dont miss the view from the terrace. The castle is nested right next to a green hillock which give it a very unique and grand charactor. The host is very friendly and makes sure that u get a homely feeling every moment of ur stay.
