We stayed in Pearl Palace Heritage for three nights during the New Year holidays and had an okay stay here.
We called to ensure reservations as we initially didn't hear back from them after our email enquiry. Room rates were higher during the holidays, but at least there was no mandatory gala dinner (note that at the time of our stay, Pearl Palace Heritage was undergoing renovation/expansion and did not have its own restaurant facilities).
The hotel is located not far off busy Ajmer road which eventually makes its way to MI road and the old city area, taking about 45 minutes to walk. The train station is about a 25-30 min walk on dusty roads so best to just take a tuk-tuk.
To us the overall appearance and decor of the hotel and room felt more contemporary and those looking for old world / heritage charm might be disappointed. The reception area was richly decorated with Indian pattern walls, and we did enjoy looking at the framed old photographs along the staircase...
We stayed in the Jaisalmer room which was rather spacious with adequate furnishings (including a desk, small dining table and three large chairs, a closet and adjacent luggage bench) and it had a chattri-like extension/balcony overlooking the street. We thought the large bed was quite comfortable and we slept very well here. There were tea and coffee making facilities, and the fridge had reasonably priced drinks (same with the snacks). Nice size flatscreen TV had standard cable package, and wifi was free and fast, although can be spotty in the room (strongest connection in the lobby). There was a safe with dial lock but it was closed when we checked in and we never used it during our stay. Also this room had a lot of light switches with odd wiring; we never did figure out which combination turned on which lights and which ones did nothing!
The bathroom was of decent size with basic toiletries. Shower took several minutes to warm up but fine thereafter. However our main complaint would have to be the poor drainage in the shower and particularly the sink which emitted an unpleasant sewage smell; not sure if this problem was related to the current renovations. We used the ashtray provided in the room to cover the sink drain and kept the bathroom door closed at all times.
As mentioned, there is no restaurant in the hotel, but its sister hotel, Pearl Palace Hotel which is about a ten minute walk away, had an upstairs dining area called Peacock Rooftop Restaurant. You can dine here although we did not find the food to be great for either breakfast or dinner so we'd suggest just making your way to the city area for meals.
The hotel arranged for us a taxi for a day trip to Amber Fort and Samode, as well as tuk-tuk transportation to the train station. We also availed of their laundry service which was pretty good, we got our clothes back on the same day, and inexpensive too!
Still we cannot be as enthusiastic about our stay in Pearl Palace Heritage Hotel as other reviewers here on TA. We've had more atmospheric and memorable rooms in Rajasthan, and while the room had its comforts, it had its flaws and was not as good value for money as expected. Additionally while the hotel isolation was nice and provided a bit of quiet, it also meant going noticeable distances for meals. In the end, there were things we liked about this hotel, but there were other important things we didn't. We'd most likely try a different hotel the next time we pass through Jaipur.
