With Indian restaurants being plentiful, it can be hard to stand out. We felt that Khyber fit the bill. The quality of the food was good, the service was outstanding and the pricing was more than fair.

If you need a little privacy, be sure to sit on the second level in the Hussein (?) room. It is good for groups or a quiet space for two.

“Take a tour of Indian cuisine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012 via mobile

Okay, we're not going to call it touristy just because it's filled with tourists. And we won't slag the faux-aged wall effects. But can't deny we dined with a great many other tourists in an ambience that seemed like it may have been fabricated to the taste of our international dining companions. On to the food: good. The menu is extensive and simply explained. The service: good but almost to the point of being intrusive. We don't mind when waiters can spot an empty plate; we just don't really need them hovering within earshot waiting to make the move. When we were trying to figure out a strange additional VAT tax at the bottom of our bill (it wasn't service charge, and it wasn't alcohol tax, since we didn't drink) a voice spoke out from over our shoulder, "All obligatory government taxes, sir." So the meal went from a pretty good value to a little bit inflated, without warning. All in all, it was a good dinner taken in interesting surroundings. Like anywhere tourists congregate the parking lot outside attracts many people, some aggressive, begging for change.

“Food poisoning!!! Advise against...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012 via mobile

My wife and I ate at the Khyber twice last week. First we had the chicken recommended by Lonely Planet - and that was very good, even considering the relatively high price. But the second day we went there, we had the full lamb leg, also recommended by Lonely Planet. 3 hours later, both my wife and I had a terrible travellers diarrhea and high feber. Don't eat their lamb - it might not be properly stored. We are cured for curries for a LONG time after this experience. Sad, the taste was good!

“Not worth it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

as it was my birthday on 7th August, my family wanted 2 go 2 the much talked bout KHYBER at kalaghoda..well as v were going 4 the first time v called n made a reservation..locating was a little difficult at night but v managed..v were directed to the upper section of the hotel n the table given was right at the end with rear table occupied by only foreigners..my family had a mixed reaction as the kids were giving the expression that they were looking at the ruins, mom thot that she is in village n me n my wife had no reactions as it was not the kind of place what v had in mind as v r used to visit lively places n this was a very old village kind of a set up..if u r looking 4 a place for fun or for a family outing, this is totally avoidable as u will find foreigners or corporates entertaining their clients...called for non veg platter, dint find it upto satisfaction as the quantity was very less n cold, the soup was just average, main course was very bland as they must be catering more of foreign clients hence not much 4 indians...the staff had 2 b called everytime 4 every small work..they just stood very near 2 the table but their attention was not at all there.v were serving water all by ourself..the butter garlic Naans were the only saving grace..the toilets were not very clean..all in all it was expensive too n the taste n the ambience was just average....

“Terrific food, great ambience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

I dined with a large group of colleagues and had an amazing meal at Khyber. We were served family style and had a wide array of Indian cuisine. We were stuffed by the end of our dinner, having sampled a wide array of dishes...succulent chicken, tender lamb and tasty spinach with paneer. The service was great and we had a terrific meal. A must visit when in Mumbai !
