I have been to 5 Spice many times over the last few years, and have had decent experiences so far. Perhaps one of the reasons I decided to revisit this place yesterday with some office colleagues. This time however, the experience was rather unsettling. We had ordered some starters, followed by rice, noodles and gravy for main-course and dessert to finish off the lunch. The starters were served cold, the noodles felt half-cooked, were slippery and wet, rice seemed like it was just boiled and rushed out, and the gravy tasted like vegetable soup, the unhealthy kind! It was so bad, we cancelled the desserts and went to McDonald's next door for ice-creams!
Now I understand during peak hours and a packed house the chefs might want to rush the orders, but certainly not at the cost of quality. This episode left a us with a pretty bad taste and the only saving grace, the reason I have given them a rating of 2, was that they didn't make us wait during peak hours, treatment is usually the opposite.
