“Great location and decent rooms!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2012

Stayed here during a recent visit to Mumbai. Hotel is conveniently located near the markets. The room is a decent size, toilet is clean and beds are comfortable. However, despite being so close to the hustle and bustle of Colaba, the room was well sound-proofed from the noise from the streets below - which if you have been to Mumbai, you would know that it gets REALLY noisy there! Wifi seems to be a bit of a problem, no one seems to be able to get it working... so we had to go to a internet shop to go online. The staff are friendly - when you approach and talk to them. They were really helpful and kind enough to let us use the shower after we had checked out and spent a whole day touring the city, before we got on our 11-hour train journey to Goa.

We stayed at this hotel on a recent trip to Mumbai. The hotel is conveniently located to the more tourist-friendly district of Mumbai within walking distance of the Gateway of India. The room service is well priced and the food is devine. The hotel is clean and the staff are friendly. Decent sized rooms that are well furnished.

2mins walk to the Gateway of India.
1min walk to The Taj Hotel.
2mins walk to the famous street food called Bademiya. Ask any of the locals around the hotel for Bademiya and they will guide you.
2 pubs you nearby (1-2mins walk) i.e. Indus (ground floor of Diplomat Hotel) and the famous Busaba. If you are going to book for this hotel, please request for the room facing the roadside. Early in the morning, you can hear birds singing and enjoy early morning Mumbai view. If you wish to use the internet for free, you can go down to the hotel lobby and only 1 laptop is available to share.
Room is clean but very old style. Toilet is clean.
Food during breakfast is eatable but not fantastic. Limited with the price of the hotel.

Room Tip: Facing the roadside to listen to the bird singing early in the morning.

We had the opposite experience as some of the reviews written below. When we arrived in Mumbai, we shopped around for hotels, and this was the nicest one in our price range, which compared to others on Marine Drive and in Colaba seemed like a deal.

The room was spotless, the beds were extremely comfortable, the air conditioner was at full blast, there was plenty of room for myself, my husband, and my father to split a triple, and the staff was attentive, competent, and eager to please. We were given complimentary breakfast, which also included free orange juice, and would definitely return if we visit Mumbai again. My father, who is particularly loud with his opinions, continually mentioned how impressed he was with the cleanliness of the hotel.

The location is great, within walking distance to many sites and restaurants in Mumbai on a quiet street off the main drag of Colaba. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel.

This hotel is expensive for the room and service you receive but its located behind the Taj Hotel and only 2 mins walk to the Gateway of India. The doorman is one of the friendliest going around but other staff can learn from him. Everything just seemed to be too much trouble for staff. The room was ok, clean enough but not the character that all the printed reviews advise. I wouldn't recommend this place to my friends.

What a terrible experience. We had booked a room for a few nights at this hotel..When we got there the counterpersons were talking in Hindi, and i knew a little bit but pretended i didnt understand what they were saying. Anyway they were talking as if the we the customers were a nuisance and one was saying that they should give us a substandard room even though we had prepaid for a larger room. The other one was trying to get us the room we paid for, but the eventually the bad one won the argument. We were led to a room and when they opened the door, I felt like screaming. We had booked a deluxe room for me and my wife. When the door opened, it didnt even look like a room, more like a closet. There was a small single bed that could only fit one person. At this point i got really mad and when back started screaming about the customer service, eventually they gave us the room we had paid for. Anyway we wanted to talk to the manager, so we called him the next morning. Instead of apoligizing, he kept asking us about what happened. What did we say when we first gave your name at the check-in. He wanted all the information about what had transpired between us and the staff. After all that still no apology, he said he would investigate the matter and get back to us. Imagine we arrived at night and were led to a room that could hardly fit one person. only a small single bed. If that was the only room there wasnt even enough room for me to sleep on a couch or the floor, that is how small the room was. I dont even think it was one of the rooms for guests, but maybe a break room for one of the staff to rest at. We asked to see him in person because I wanted to let him know how dissapointed with the service. When we met him in person, still it was about how he tried to investigate and how one of the staff persons was trying to mislead the other and how he had talked to both people and checked what we said against their word. Still no apology . His attitude was that since we eventually got the room we had paid for . it was no big deal. After my wife and i talked to him about how badly we were treated he grudgingly said they had screwed up and were sorry. I asked him for a written apology from his staff or the manager and he said he at first said he had already apoligized so whats the point of a written apology. I responded if they were really sorry why not prove it in writing. He said he would draw up a letter of apology and we would have it before we checked out. At check out, there was no letter nor did they try to make any amends or offer any discounts. The only think we got for all this trouble was free orange juice at the meeting with the manager, who also ordered orange juice for himself. Even the deluxe room was very small but at least me and my wife both could fit in the bed.
