We were in Mumbai for 3 weeks and needed some R and R and decided to do the Sunday package where you do not stay overnight - you get to use all the facilities and have 2 meals provided. When we arrived we were overwhelmed with a fishy smell and could not believe how strong it was, funny enough it didn't take long to get used to it. The other reviewers have been quite honest about the fishy smell, however, I wonder if any of them took the time to find out about it. Once we realised where the smell was coming from, we were more than happy to know why the smell was so strong. At the back fence of the hotel leading to the beach is a guard who will let you out onto the beach. He tells you that you cannot swim out there and that there are fisherwomen drying fish on the beach. Due to our curiousity we went out to see what they were doing - there was one particular woman who was more than happy to show us what she was doing and brought over a basket of an assortment of fish and shrimp for us to photograph. She then posed and we were thrilled to know that these women are descendents of the original settlers in this area and still dry fish as they did in earlier years. They dry larger fish on the racks and the smaller ones on the sand and constantly turn the fish as they dry. Wow, this was the highlight of our day and the smell meant something now. The hotel on the other hand is average, the staff were very attentive and friendly, the food was ok and the pool was clean and cool, however, someone was doing some much needed maintenance. I think the hotel lacks something, could be a bit old and needs to be re-vamped to match some of the other amazing hotels in Mumbai. For a get-away from the frenetic Mumbai traffic and noise, this is a good place to regain your energy levels. We had a great view from the window and we sat there being entertained by the antics of the animals out on the street and the hawks and parrots in the nearby trees. To be honest we did not stay overnight so the room was not an issue for us. Make sure you have a massage - the lady there was amazing and so worth it. I would go there again as I think it is more about the location than the 5 star facilities you get in the city of Mumbai.
