Residency Hotel in Andheri is one of those hotels in India that one discovers accidentally. In previous trips we had stayed at other hotels in the Andheri area including some luxury hotels in Juhu but our experiences with those turned out to be less than average. We had picked those based on great reviews in Tripadvisor good deal of which turned out to be just hype. We chose Residency Hotel at Andheri the same way but for once the reviews turned out to be accurate.
Residency Hotel is quite close to the airport and they have arrangements to pick you up or drop you there for a reasonable charge. The hotel sits on a lane on the Andheri Kurla Road, so the location is not the greatest. But enter the hotel and you see a spacious reception area. The reception and dining areas have some beautiful woodwork.
We had a double deluxe room about 200 sqft in area. Not large, but very tastefully decorated with a sofa, coffee table, desk, chair etc. The moment we mentioned that a small table to keep the luggage would be useful, one of the attendants, Mahesh not only got a table but with a nice table cloth. The bathroom size is adequate with instant hot water practically any time. Our showers were great.
Breakfast is included in the rate. Our fare included both North and South Indian dishes, besides omelettes, hard-boiled eggs, tea, coffee, juice etc. The service in the dining area is superb and one Kamalesh took very good care of us throughout our stay. You can have a buffet dinner or special "thalis" - containing rotis or naan, dhal, vegetables etc which we found quite adequate.
Mr. Pramod, one of the managers was extremely kind and courteous. He arranged for autos for us (taxis are hard to find if you have to go short distances and those which stand outside the hotel are often quite expensive ). He arranged for taxis when we had to go longer distances. There is laundy facility and the clothes picked up in the morning are delivered by 7 p.m.
We stayed a week and our bill including laundry and several meals was a bit less than $650 and that is a bargain in Mumbai. Then why only 4 stars? On our last day, they were cleaning the floors but the workers made such a mess that we found it difficult to get into or out of the rooms. It almost appeared the hotel had no control over the events!
The next time we visit Mumbai we will definitely stay here again.
