“Beat away the cravings for European food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

This little cafe would be just as at home tucked away somewhere in Europe as it is in Mumbai. They have a really continental menu and I was surprised to see beef on the menu for the first time in India (I have been here six weeks). The food was pretty good, the staff were pleasant and the atmosphere is a nice mix of backpacker and local. The price is a little on the high side but you pay for those home comforts I guess.

Good for the budget backpacker but avoid the over priced beer.

“Nice to have a beer, don't eat here.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

Good place to chill for a while and have a drink (220Rs for a large Kingfisher, not really cheap) in a nice atmosphere. Food is expensive for what it is and not really of high quality, and they serve very small portions.
On our third visit (we ate there the night before) were thrown out because we were not eating and they wanted the table for other costumers, not a realy friendly thing to do. After all, it is a cafe, not a restaurant!

“quiet old chill out place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

I went to cafe universal on sunday evening , to find a new , good place (mondegar and leopold being crowded and hot spots filled ith tourists) to my surprise i was amused with so many advantages it has .
1] location-yes if you wanna hang out in south mumbai, mondegar and leopold are nt the only places. good location in and around churchgate, getaway.
2} food- very authentic food , good in taste
3} very less crowded , ambience is quiet
4}you can hav slow , nice conversation with your group, partner , friends
DIsadvantage-
i feel music lovers should avoid it, no music thr at all
the waiter that served us was nt that freindly 9this may not be true with all waiters)
mocktails are not that great.
so try some regular dishes like fries, nachos, starter chicken and stick with cocktails and alcohol.
dnt go for authentic dinner or exotic dishes and mocktails or for music.
u will hav gud time if u want plain quiet evening.

“Ok food nice place for a beer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

I ate here a couple of times and the food was ok (acceptable but nothing to get excited about), but also frequebtly came in just for a cold beer as my hotel was on the same block and the staff were always welcoming, the atmosphere was nice, and the beer cold. Basically a decent place to chillout for a bit.
