If you love beaches this is one place you should be, lots of clean beaches nearby to visit. There are few forts like colaba fort, janjiara. The famous near by beach are kihim, akshi, nagaon, mandva, revdanda, kashid, murud.

“Good weekend getaway”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2013

Located within 100kms from Mumbai is this one of the many weekend getways from Mumbai. U can take up a catamaran from Gateway of India which drops you to Mandwa and they take u to Alibag in their buses from there. Alibag has a nice beach and a fort which can be reached by small boats from the beach. it seems during summer we can just walk to the fort. When in Alibag u can also explore nearby beaches such as Kihim and Kashid which are about an hours drive from Alibag.
Although nothing great about this place, its a once visit from Mumbai.

“Mini Beach Getaway ”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2013

I grew up in alibag before moving to mumbai so obviously this place is very special to me. And many people who visit here are somewhat disappointed due huge expectations and comparisons to goa.
One important factor that affectsyour beach experience in alibag are tides. It can be let down to go to the beach to only see miles of muddy sand. Before you plan to visit any beach, you can check with the locals for the tides timings. Not everyone knows, but people interacting with tourists - hotel staff, auto rickshaw drivers, etc can tell you. Plan accordingly and you will have a better time. The entire coastal belt is beautiful and is lined at the shores with ' suru' trees. That makes it a nice picnicky spot at any beach here. Popular beaches from mumbai going south that are accessible from alibag

Mandwa - place is popular due to 2 reasons - movie agneepath and the namesake jetty where people from mumbai alight. The beach is right next to the jetty. This beach is dotted with bungalows belonging to mumbai celebrities and affluent. There is also a vijay mallya bunglow where he keeps his vintage car collection.

Kihim: 15mins from Mandwa 20 from alibag City. It's the most popular of Alibags beaches. Have some really nice beach front hotels and also shacks if you like that. This beach has Rock-like structures and can be submerged in hightide. Care advised.

Varsoli: tiny beach, difficult to find, good for booking a beach side farmhouses. These people rent rooms on day basis and can also offer home cooked food.

Alibag town beach: recently redeveloped. You can visit the costal Fort of colaba from this beach during low tide. You get delicious chat and coconut here in evening. There are horse, tanga rides as well. I have seen water sports happening but that is seasonal. Beach is not worth bathing in.

Akshi and nagaon:
These are two neighbouring beaches 20minute drive from Alibag Bus stand. Of the 2 Akshi is little lesser known. Nagaon is much popular and offers everything beach bungalows to water sports. Many locals have converted their farmhouses to B&B style rest houses and offers really cheap accommodation near beach. Locality near these beaches is very villagy so carry everything you need. You can get good local fish food here.

The most popular beaches of them all and my personal favourite. This is an hour drive from alibag towards murud. When i was a child, this beach used to be easily missed while going to murud. Although I always felt this was a very beautiful beach. Pristine beach flanked by hilly cliffs. The beach became almost overnight popular, when the food stall owners tied hammocks across the beach and offered it for free use to tourists. This makes it one of a kind experience. The is no dearth of hammocks now even on crowded days. Hotels too have sprung up nearby making this more accessible. Beach too is clearer with less mud more sand. And watching the sun set on a hammock is just amazing. Must visit.

Some restaurants in alibag for awesome sea food:

Restaurant patang
Restaurant sanman
Hotel lilac

These are my tips for alibag.
Hope someone find them useful for their planning.

“Couple of Good beaches”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

I had been to Alibaug during a bike ride. There are around 4-5 beaches at Alibaug and you have to take the effort of finding the best one. Since I had gone on a Sunday, there was a lot of crowd. The high tide spoiled the moment as well but it was still pleasant. Definitely worth a visit!
