“Good 'only' a nights stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Booked this hotel for a nights stay as was in mumbai for a short stint. You need to be on your toes as it is easy to miss the tiny alley towards this hotel near the Colaba Post Office. once you enter the gate, you see a very very old building, not painted since say the past 50 years.... There is a lift for the hotel customers. The super deluxe room was decent enough. Luckily all the switches in the room were working. The room was clean and tidy. The washroom to was clean and had toileteries. No issues with the AC. all was good. A fare enough bet for a budget stay, and for a short stay. The staff too was pretty well mannered and helpful.
All in all not bad... Average, just because of the entrance and the state of the building.

As far as hotels in Mumbai goes the Hotel Everest is a good deal for your money. If the exterior of the building does not put you off and you manage to make it to the fourth floor where the hotel is you will be happily greeted by the lovely staff. We got a basic room that included air-con, cable, wifi, clean double bed and breakfast for 1000. It did not have a connected bathroom but the communal bathroom was clean and always stocked with toilet paper. The hotel is in a good location just a ten minute walk from the Colaba Causeway and right beside a supermarket. If you want a basic cheap room this is a great option if you are looking for any sort of luxury this is not the hotel for you.

Dodgy little place that took us hours to find and noone we talked to had heard of it was up a side alley at the end of colaba 5 mins walk to where it all happens. Rooms were pretty pokey low roofs couldnt stand up inside on the plus side the had a/c. I heard it use to be a brothel, probably would have been better/cleaner if it still was.

This place is a shame, especially when you arrive in India (it was my second time to India but the first for my wife) and okay, you can expect such a place if you have a budget of Rs. 100 but NOT for what you have to pay here. So please, never ever go there or you just want to leave India just as you arrived. Horrible building, creepy place as mentioned often below. The management and staff was unfriendly, kind of updset that they have guests now, we didn't get the room we booked (sure, never pay for a room by credit card in advance) and our room was really just a crappy rat hole. We wouldn't have lay down on the bed if we hadn't brought our own sheet. Never experienced such a dirty, old, [--] place like this. (Bring extra shoes to go to the bathroom/toilet). A shame that this hotel is also on the lonely planet homepage. Worst was that we even didn't get back the money for the 2nd night as we moved out as soon as the sun raised: TIP: Hotel Antique nearby, check it out.
Hope that they never get guests again and shut down this place, it is a shame for Mumbai

A good little hotel.Although the shower in my room did not work. The room was large nice comfy bed.Room clean. The entrance to the hotel a bit off putting down alleyway in the top off ropey old building. But hotel is placed close to gateway to India and not far from the mumbai indians ground(main reason for me being here to catch up with the ipl).Overall not bad at all

Room Tip: Check the room first there are big differences some rooms no bathroom and very small but at the same...

1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

I have stayed in some very bad hotels. But this one takes the cake. We (my husband and I) were looking for a budget hotel in Mumbai for a small trip spanning over the first weekend of March 2013. Expedia threw this up in a search and it was one of the few hotels who were ready to make a reservations on phone without advance payment(now i understand why). So since this fitted our budget and the pics on Expedia were not half as bad, we made our reservation for a standard AC room double occupancy. Heres a summary of my experience

1. My husband travelled on the morning of 1st March from Pune to Mumbai since he had some time bound commitments to tend to. I had a meeting on the same day so it was planned that i would join him in late evening. Since he reached Mumbai with barely enough time to change and rush for his meeting, he didnt care at all about the room's condition and checked in. He did complain in phone that the room is unworthy of human habitation. I asked him to start looking for alternatives in the adjoining areas.
2. I reached Mumbai at 10 in the night and headed straight for the hotel. After climbing 4 floors up a decrepit building in a pre-historic cage lift that opens a feet above ground level we reached the reception.
3.At the check in, the manager or receptionist or whoever was present at the check-in were acting funny to say the least. when i produced my passport as an ID, he matched that to my husband's and said your ids are NOT matching !! I went OMFG instantly .. and completely lost it... they kept on slyly referring that they dont believe we are married and need our marriage certificate which we were not carrying ..so we ended up showing them some pics from my wedding on my phone. i had never felt so frustrated in my entire life.
4. We were ushered to our room by an obviously drunk attendant who was literally swaying. One look at the room and i knew what my husband meant. It was dank and stifling.
- God only knows when the windows were opened last or the room was at least aired.
- There were cobwebs and dust everywhere.
- All the glass objects (mirrors, tabletops etc) were cracked.
- A folded old newspaper made for table top decor.
- All the electrical fittings were hanging out of their places.
- There was no phone in the room.
- There was no cable for the TV plus anyways the remote didnt work. TV itself was 14 inch affair from some obscure company called PILO (anyone ever heard of it ???)
- And the mother of it all..the western toilet in the bathroom was shaky. Imagine having to use that !!!!
- there was no wi-fi in the room which is a small tiny discmfort in the face of everything else. The lobby supposedly had wi-fi but it was big enough to accommodate only one person (some lobby eh !)

The first thing we did in the morning was run out and search another place to stay. We were so scared for our health that we didnt even brush our teeth with the water in the room, popped in mints.

Everything about this hotel spells disaster. And yet there is no authority that is checking on the standards from time to time. Mumbai is an expensive place we are all aware of that. However to charge this amount and not provide even basic hygiene is unacceptable.

There are scores of other places to stay withing the same price range and incredibly good facilities. Please forego this hotel even if they offer you free stay.
