“Nice to see, but you wont spend too long there”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2014

As the title says, its a nice gate and looks pretty light up in the evening but it doesn't blow you away and there are plenty of things to do and see in Mumbai so a quick look is probably about right.

“Excellent reduced to just very good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2014

A landmark is to be enjoyed without hindrance. But 26/11/2008 changed all that. Now barricades all over and an overbearing security means you can only see what the police wants you to see. Of course the sea still looks beautiful, the monument is still grand, the photographers still want you to try having your hand over Hotel Taj in a photo, but something is missing - maybe due to the barricades. One cannot go from the monument to the driveway along Taj and has to come out and take a circuitous route. That somehow plays on the mind and spoils the enjoyment. But, still a must see in Mumbai, if not anything else than for historic importance, the Taj, the sea and the grand buildings like Dhanraj Mahal in the vicinity.

“Truly a site to see.”

A magnificent site to behold, that is truly worth seeing from a cultural and historical perspective.
A great deal larger than I expected and certainly an amazing structure.

“It has a presence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2014

The Gateway is located on the water and is right next to the Taj Mahal hotel in the city.

This is a monument that draws people to it, and also acts as a wharf for the boats going out to nearby islands. As a result it can be very crowded, however when I visited it was described as deserted, if that is possible.

We arrived on a Sunday and we were told how deserted it was. It was a Sunday you see and a weekend. There ws a security checkpoint to go through, the usual metal detectors however it would help if they were turned on.

The gateway is large, imposing and large. It also gives you a great angle to see the nearby hotel. It draws locals and tourists in alike. The amount of Indian tourists there was noticeable.

The scam or offering available here is a photo of you and your group in front of the Gateway for $10. They use their own quality camera and then print the photo for you using a portable printer. There are plenty of people offering this service. For once it seems professional however after saying no 20 times it does get a bit much.

I loved going to the Gateway, why? Well it is a monument and it seems to positively affect people.
