“If you are in the neighborhood”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

The Gateway was blocked off by police gates when I was there and there seemed to be no way in - although there were tons of people in there. It reminds me of Times Square if you have to walk through it to get somewhere else. Lots of people and no motion....so do buy a postcard of it as it is very beautiful but don´t waste a day trying to get to it.

“Memories......”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

I was here in 2008 and was deeply shocked when I heard about the Terrorist attack later on. This time I was there again with my daughter.

“It literally is just a gateway disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

We were expecting a lot from the Gateway of India, but it literally is just a gateway.

It's worth seeing briefly on a Mumbai sightseeing tour but frankly isn't that impressive. The area (unsurprisngly) is overrun by people wanting to take your picture and sell it to you.

The waterfront is pleasant enough, but there's little to detain you here for more than five minutes.

“Everything and nothing great at the same time.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

Iconic monument that the locals couldn't care less about but at the same time an amazing location for tourists that come to Bombay ( not Mumbai- for the link to British Raj). Sit at the far steps and try to read the inscriptions on the top or lose yourself in the intricate workmanship, not to forget the sheer size of the gateway OF India, built as a gateway TO India. Great place to visit with friends too, have some street side food or click pictures with 3 amazing backdrops of the gateway, the taj palace hotel or the taj towers. Overcrowded usually, sparsely clean, right next to the yacht club, the place from where you can either go for a short ride into the arabian sea or take a ferry to Alibag and/or the Elephanta caves.
