“What a little gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2010

Having booked into a different hotel for 7 nights and escaped after 1,[as previously review!] a contact suggested this hotel near the Mumbai Int Airport. It is modern, clean, bright, with excellent staff .... and is connected to a Country Club with amazing facilities - 2 mins walk away in the same compound. It is a 60 min drive out of the city busines centre, and the Mumbai traffic is horrendoes - but it is so lovely to return to the sanctuary, that is the Gordon House, at the end of a busy day in Mumbai.

I can not fault this hotel ... the rooms are all individually designed and decorated, of reasonable size and nicely furnished. There is a small garden and water feature on the 2nd floor ... [where my room was situated], with access from the Lounge. The bar is well stocked [!] and the small restaurant is adequate for this boutique hotel. Two more restaurant facilities are available in the Club House.

This is an ideal hotel for a business trip, a short stay on arrival and departure given the close proximity of the Int Airport ... but, probably not for a family holiday!

Stayed at the Gordon House Suites thrice in the span of three months for some workshops/conferences from my company. The place is fairly functional - quite conveniently located for business travelers - about 5 minutes from the international airport terminal and 20 minutes from the domestic terminal.

Each floor is interestingly themed as "Marine / Forest / Fire / Mountain / Glacier" and the decor in each of the rooms varies with the theme. I stayed in the Marine, Forest and Fire floors in each of my stays. The overall colour theme for each was Blue / Green / Orange respectively... the Forest floor had one wall with faux-bamboo finish; the marine floor had a nice blue-tiled wall which resembled a sea bed.... and more!

The rooms are semi-suites; with a partition behind the workstation separating the bed from the sitting area (thus not really creating a separate room as such).

The food quality is not bad; however the service leaves a lot to be desired.

The best part of this hotel is definitely the adjoining Waterstone Club - which is for the use of residents and club members. The latter are mainly expatriates - with a nice fat company expense account (membership is about Rs 400,000 per annum). The club has an olympic length swimming pool which is open 24 hours a day, and is one of the best maintained pools I have ever seen/used. The clarity of the water is a testament to the hard work of the staff at the club.

The fitness centre is also world class, and is an excellent facility to use!

Room size is large beyond what is expected of the price range. Definitely a choice to consider when convenience to the international airport is required.

I visit Mumbai regularly on business and stay at various big brand name hotels. The experience is these hotels are cold and forgetable. Gordon House is in another league. The welcome at the airport was warm, the car taking you back to the hotel was comfortable, the rooms are absolutely unique and the staff at the restaurant are a really wonderful lot. My first visit had some minor hiccups - TV was not working properly and I had an embarassing situation at the next door country club due to lack of proper information from the hotel reception.

But during my next visit with my wife and kid, everything was perfect. The chef is absolutely brilliant and the food was really delicious and light. The spa at the next door club and the facilities there are also top notch. I had a number of friends over to meet me and they were stunned with the location and the quality of the place. They all thanked me for introducing them to this hidden gem...

Once I arrived after a long journey from Europe I was welcomed by their driver
and brought to the hotel. I would call it a boutique hotel, great interior and great atmosphere and small enough to feel special and not in any of this big ones.

The room was spacious, well designed and all you need to feel pampered.
During the heat outside, the cool design of the glacier room was the right choice to relax.
The bed was just amazing so that I overslept my first appointment .

The breakfast had a really big choice and I had only one time dinner there and this was nice too.

It took a bit learning to explain the taxi driver to find the hotel , as it is hidden in a side street , but after 2 x you learn it . I used private taxis and autos .

The water stone park next to it is a really treat and I had a great swim in this huge pool .

The only negative points
the taxi prices organized by the concierge (up to 3 x more than a normal one)
To use the business center you always had to ask someone to open it for you and close it. Bit tiring but it was free.

On my way back from Hongkong had forgotten to book a hotel. Called them up at 9:00 pm from Delhi. Promptly took my reservation.
The person was at the airport in a nice spacious car (complimentary pickup) and was quickly taken off to the hotel. Neat little place with unique decor at each level.
Amazing breakfast the next morning of chole bature.
Wish to be back agin.

The property itself is tucked away in quiet corner away from the hustle and bustle of the main road, even though close to the airport and right behind the Lalit Intercontinental. The themed rooms are a great concept. The rooms are designed well, spacious but yet has that feeling of being warm and cozy, very clean and lovely decor. The service is quick and well organised with a pretty helpful staff. I would like to overlook the slight mistake of the house keeping person entering the room and hanging around, while i was in the bathroom, thinking i had called to check out, while my colleague in next room had actually called to check out. I had to get out of the bathroom to drive the person out and I was quite furious. One star in my rating reduces only because of this incident. Quite an interesting and nice breakfast spread as well. The bar is also quite a nice and cozy one with happy hours from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. Overall, this hotel is a great place and a real value for money place, considering i got a really fantastic deal. I would definitely stay here again if I were visiting Mumbai on business or leisure.
