“Sumptous meal!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

Earthy decor..North indian cuisine..good food..unlimited beverages...pocket friendly..welcome to Caravan Serai! This place offers a la carte as well as buffet..the buffet is very competitively priced at Rs 399 per head plus taxes on weekdays and Rs 499 per head plus taxes on weekends and is worth every rupee..

One of the few places where the rate card is the same for veg as well as non-veg. The starters were awesome..in veg, the paneer, so soft that it melts in your mouth, the seekh kebab - decent and the marinated mushroom - very well prepared..the tikki was ok..bonus here was the chaat..pani puri and sev puri..for beverages, this place offers a wide array from chaass (spicy n tangy), beer (fosters), fruit punch, red/ white wine, fresh lime soda..the main course was good with 3 veg vegetable, choice of breads..roti, naan, paratha..and the dal tadka simply made my day! The desserts were strictly ok..but after such a heavy meal, u really care less about dessert! All in all..hop on to caravan serai for a memorable ride! ;)

“Authentic Indian Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

All our friends decided to go to Caravan Serai last Saturday. Caravan Serai is conveniently located in Bandra, the Queen of the suburbs in Mumbai. The restaurant is located on the first floor and has a good ambiance. Exactly as its name suggests - - which means a place where
" caravans " can rest and enjoy good food. The place is well made out of actual wooden tables and low back rest chairs. They have a well stocked bar and also offers a variety of virgin mock-tails, including chaas and jal jeera. The starters also were mouth watering, specially the paneer was so soft and well marinated. For the main course we tried black dal and mixed vegetables which also was very satisfying.

“A nice lunch buffet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

My birthday lunch was long overdue and we finally decided to head to Caravan Serai in Andheri.
When we got there, the first thing that appealed to us was the ambiance. It was very well done. Not too jazzy.. Just perfect.. Loved the low seating..

We opted for the buffet.. the starters are brought to your table.. We were offered tandoori prawns, fried fish, chicken kebabs, and seekh kebab.. The prawns were totally worth it.. very well done.. The fish and seekh were good too.. The chicken was nothing exceptional.. The mushrooms in the veg starters were worth mentioning..

With so many prawns, fish and seekh down, I didn't delve on the main course. Had to dive into the yummy looking desserts.. That being said, the little biryani that I had was great..

Now coming to the dessert, I had gulab jamun, pastries, mousse, ice cream.. and yes.. wait for it.. caramel custard.. The caramel custard was the best of the lot.. I had 2 generous servings of it.. The mousse was good too..enjoyed the bitter-sweet combination..

Some of the things that I didn't enjoy too much were:
- it seemed like ages before they got us our starters. The first round and also the follow-ups.
- the main course and desserts were laid out in a cramped area. The area got crowded pretty soon.
- had to ask for spoons and plates for the desserts.. the dessert spoons weren't enough..

If I ignore all of this, and only concentrate on the food, I was more than happy with the experience.. I would definitely go back hoping the negatives were only a one-time issue..
