“Excellent no frills experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2009

It was an excellent stay at Ginger My sore after a cool time off at Coorg. We had spent a fortune at Club Mahindra Madikeri and were left with limited budget and time for Mysore - we quickly researched budget hotels online and found a crazy deal from Ginger with just 1000 rupees per night with breakfast. Without giving further thoughts, we went ahead and did the booking online and checked-in in a equally smooth.

The hotel was in the prime location of Mysore city and favorably close to the center of attraction i.e. the Mysore Palace. After a tiring journey using state transport bus from Coorg, we checked in the hotel at noon and discovered a neat colorful room with readily available tea, coffee, air-conditioning, lcd tv and hot water shower. Without further delay we freshened up and prepared to go sight-seeing - it was Sunday and we didn’t want to miss visiting the museum and then the palace lights after 7 pm. We were lucky to stay here since it took us no more than 15 minutes by rickshaw to reach the palace - this made all the difference as we were able to do a lot of things in limited time.

After spending the whole day outside watching the palace and the vrindavan gardens, we got back to the hotel in the evening. It was good to feel the warm welcome by the reception folks and to see the room all done and the tea/coffee/water replenished upon request. The hot water shower was very relaxing and helped us rejuvenate for a much aspired dinner. We soon reached the hotel restaurant which had a fairly priced buffet at just 249 plus tax. We spent our decent 2 hours enjoying the food and deserts. Not to forget the ambience and service which was apt both at the restaurant and the café coffee day outlet where the guests enjoyed the brew.

Post dinner, we had a good stroll within the hotel campus and headed back to our room for a good night sleep. We had some nice sleep then – good enough to get started again the next day. Newspaper on demand along with hi-speed internet access was a boon for me to stay in sync with my professional life while I was out of office. Overall, I enjoyed the stay here and would highly recommend the same for couples, professionals and families to enjoy this new concept hotel especially when you have limited budget.

Hi all, Though they are only providing the basic facilities you will be amazed by the quality of the services. You will love the breakfast. Must try is honey in cornflakes instead of sugar.

You can do kiosk shopping for small items like shaving kit to cold drinks.

Very good option for business aswell as pleasure trips.

Location
This is my second stay at the ginger. We stayed here earlier in 2007 soon after the hotel was inaugurated.

This time we booked 3 rooms at The Ginger, mysore as part of our visit to the Karanji Lake. Both the lake as well as the palace are short walks from this hotel. We had some difficulty locating the hotel coz a tree was obstructing the board!!

Check In/ Check Out
Check-in was a tad slow - we had to wait for around 15mts before we got our cards.
Check out was even slower with the receptionists - looks like they are new who kept talking in kannada throughout whilst 2 of us were waiting got ever.

Restaurant/Food
Buffet Lunch at 250/pax was good - Lot of vegetarian options.

We did not have dinner at the hotel, rather chose to go-local; had masala dosa at a nearby restaurant.

Breakfast at 125/pax was not worth the money - Could have had more options / a-la-carte preferably. I'd suggest that you walk a bit from the hotel and have your plate of dosa or idli from nearby restaurants. Apparently, breakfast is on the house only if you stay for 2 days or more.

Cafe Coffee Day which is open 24 hrs is good.

Rooms
Rooms were functional, in room shower gel was a thoughtful addition. So were the complimentary bottles of water. LCD tv was the smallest you can find in the market! Nevertheless it solved its purpose. A/C was good. room looked to be new and smelt a bit of gammaxine or similar.

Internet/WiFi
at 100Rs/hour - did not use it. Managed with the GPRS on my phone.

Overall
Good hotel for a visit at mysore at Rs.990/pax. Room rent has been stable for 2 years now!! There are other hotels which charge atleast 3 or 4 times more and you will end up paying 10% tip as well on top of it. Clean rooms and an excellent location make it a perfect stopover.

It was a good hotel near by to the Maharaja Palace. The Tatas group hotel is with good maintenance. Food is also available in the restaurant. All the facilities are available like internet, etc, but I could not use them as I went out with family for sightseeing.

A very good Budget Hotel. For people who have are Transiting from Mysore or here for a Short Sight Seeing Holiday, I think this is the most ideal property. Over all the hotel is fantasctic, nice open layout, Clean Cosy Rooms and good Restaurant.

It is perfect value for Money if you have taken a deal with Breakfast, as it has decent spread of items on Breakfast. Even their Lucnh and Dinner are reasonably priced keeping in mind the Brand name. As at time it is difficult at times to find good restaurants late in the evening, Ginger's Restaurant can come to your rescue.

The amenities provided by the Hotels are good. basic Toliteries are provided, have Internet Connections available for a small fee, Gymanasium is also available for the use of the Guest. Best part is they have 24 hour Coffee Shop in the form of CCD outlet within the Hotels Reception.

Overall if your are visiting Mysore for Transit or a Short Sight seeing Trip for a day or two, it's a ideal hotel o stay. Notebale feature of the palce it seems is that it is quite popular among the Locals as we find Couples Checking in for their Wedding Nights as well.

This is a good hotel given the cheap rates and new concept. They offer no room service but you can order food from eating joints nearby. They have CCD in the hotel that is also ok when looking for a snack. The rooms are small but clean with all basic facilities such as TV, AC etc.

Its a nice business hotel. Very neat and clean. You can see every effort to replicate a Deccan airways model by various obvious measures to save cost. But the overall experience is good. Good value for money. No room service.
