“stay tempted to revisit mysore”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2010

Visiting Mysore itself is a pleasure; my friend and me had visited this historic city several times and every time we stay at the post and royal Regaalis in the center of the city.
The one good thing about Regaalis is that it is located very near the Railway Station. It is like you can even walk to Regaalis if you want to see the city on your first visit. By Auto it costs only Rs. 15 the minimum charge.
A sprawling complex in 3 acres of land, the landscape is well maintained to suit the royal city. The mix of modern and old architecture adds more charm to the building. If you travel by car then doesn’t worry the hotel has sufficient parking space for your car also.

Once we booked a room, we asked for a double bedroom you can be sure you will not get one during the peak times which is during the summer and during dasara. At the front office people are warm and friendly. The lobby is well lit and there are friendly people all around. Soft music soothes your tired body and nerves after the rough journey to Mysore.
Accommodation at Regaalis is completely charming there is central air conditioning though Mysore climate during most of the months does not warrant it. The sofas are comfortable and pastry and restaurant are extremely good. The restaurant has a garden view too.

Food is excellent in Regaalis and people come to Mysore just to enjoy the exotic food served at Regaalis. Rooms and hospitality are also good. They are clean and well maintained. Toilets need a special mention, as they are very clean throughout the day.
I would recommend stay at Hotel Regaalis for anyone who visits Mysore the first time and be sure you would be excited to visit again and again.

Regaalis Hotel, owned by the Usha Lexus group is one of the best hotels in mysore city. The hotel has been the regular stay option for many a foreign and domestic tourist, visiting the city. The parking immediately in front of the hotel can accommodate 5-6 cars at the most, while the main parking area (cemented) can accommodate a lot of vehicles. This business class hotel is also often the venue for many conferences being held in the city. The cheer starts from the moment you approach the hotel doors, with a friendly face saluting you and welcoming you inside. The approach to the lobby is well lit, and the floors reflect off the light beautifully. The reception is friendly, and helpful. in the evenings, you can hear a musician playing the keyboard in the lobby, and the soft melodies soothe your nerves. The enticing sight of the pastry shop in the lobby will make you stand and stare and long for the pastries behind the glass. The lobby sofas are comfy, but could do with a cleaning once in a while, as I found a few stains on the fabric on more than one occasion. The restaurant is well lit, and has a garden view. The food is very very good, and the afternoon lunch buffet is excellent, and a must try. The rooms are well maintained, spacious and clean. The toilets are also very clean and maintained well. Room service is prompt. All in all, a high recommendation for your next trip to mysore.

The rooms are small, and the furniture is old. Ideal for people that like historic/ older rooms, but not so ideal for the "modern traveler".

However, the hotel is reasonably priced and the overall value is not bad.

We stayed at the Regaalis in Mysore for seven days in February 2010. My wife and I and our three boys (13, 11 and 5). We had booked the room in advance, asking for two adjoining rooms. One of the rooms was bright and cheerful but the adjoining room was somewhat dingy (torn curtains and stained couch-chairs). The room was otherwise fine. If you stay here, ask for a room facing the back (facing the pool and garden) as these are quiet and have a nice view.

The major problem was the way the restaurants are run. If you have ever seen John Cleese's "Faulty Towers", this is a good analogy. It would have been entertaining had we not had three children. There are two restaurants. We tried to eat in the restaurant out back by the pool on the first night. First, make sure you have a reservation as there are otherwise no tables (when you check in they don't tell you this). There was one waiter for about 10 tables. Needless to say, we sat down and waited and waited and waited. 30 minutes to get a menu. More time to get our food; in fact, after an hour I left, taking our 5 year old up to the room because he had fallen asleep before the food arrived. The restaurant (as well as the main one in the lobby) don't open until 7:30pm, which is not convenient if you have young children. The other mornings and evenings we ate at the main restaurant in the lobby. The food was excellent. The problem again was the poor service. Very long wait times. Poor communicative skills. Having to ask three times and wait for 30 minutes for a glass of water. We gave up on dinner after the second night, ordering room service.

The other service in the hotel was also poor. For example, they have an exercise room on the ground floor. My wife called to ask them to turn on the air conditioning. Noone came. She called 20 minutes later. Still noone after 20 minutes. This happened a couple of times.

The hotel was well-situated but they charged an arm and a leg for hotel drivers. In fact, we paid more money for our daily 3 - 5 hour excursions than we did in Delhi or Bangalore.

Regaalis Hotel is a three-star hotel at best - The exterior of the Regaalis Hotel was looked promising, but the hallway smelled' our room was large and clean enough, but the bathroom had an awful moldy smell which triggered my asthma. The restaurant service was very poor. The food itself in both restaurants was OK. I will never return to this hotel and neither will I recommend it to others. Our travel agent apologized and said he should have put us somewhere else.

Stayed at this hotel for three nights in Feb 2010 as part of one month self drive tour of S. E. India
Ample parking and wi-fi available in room at a charge. Quiet location but close to in town sites like the Palace and market. Rooms very well equipped with comfy beds ,A/C, coffee/tea making facilities, fridge, TV. Bathroom with bath and shower all very clean. Good food in restaurants and good service. Nice pool area with poolside restaurant.
We felt this was an ideal chioce for Mysore
