“Lacking the basic hospitality”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2012

We just returned from a trip to mysore[jan 28th 2012], where we stayed at Mayura Hoysala, a kstdc venture for the tourist stay.We booked a non AC room , shelling 900+ bucks, having some expectations from the great KSTDC, ignoring the basic idea that it is run by GOVT which can never compete with the private sector.First, about the room [ which costed us 900+ rs] was a very old model fully stuffed with a double cot + 4 chairs + a teapai - a single extra cot !!!!The windows were all closed by heavy curtains and our only way to get fresh air is to open the door !!!How can they stuff a room that way ? we even got doubts if it is a storeroom....
next, the bathroom, it was nearly size of bedroom with both western and indian toilets and the flush was not working properly...we felt terrible using the bathroom...we had to close the bathroom door [old model door] and spent the half of the time outside to avoid that stinky bathroom and suffocating room....
Next the main part about the hospitality services, we were not given soap/towels till we asked about it .....when we asked to switch on the geyser in the evening, the receptionist was rude and when we told that we will complain , he was reckless saying "you can tell whoever you want",typical govt mentality...

Next, about the food/restaurant....the north indian thali was gud , later when we asked for cup of coffee and milk to be served in our room, we were surprised to see coffee cup and milk glass served in steel plate!!! is it a kaka hotel they are running ?

This was the horrible experience downgrading the KSTDC chain of hotels...the service side needs a total re-vamp, better to be outsourced to a private hotel to serve better, peopel woking there should have a min sense on how to serve and how to speak....the typical govt employee attitude of the people working there has to be changed..........

Room Tip: probably an AC room wud be different / yatri nivas [ a building in the same compound ] room might b...

located in the heart of the city , the main business street is very near to it &the most advantageous thing is the daily trip of Mysore conducted by KSTDC starts from here . The food of the restaurant is very bad . In the reception desk there is no booklet about Mysore . In the annexe building there is a Silk shop & Kerala tourism office which is helpful but the Karnataka tourism office was unable to help us with any Map or guide booklet. The rooms were renovated & nicely maintained .

We could not get rooms in desired hotel so stayed here for one night. The room was small, curtains looked like they have not been washed since the hotel was made. There were no towels, when asked for, we were given only one towel which was torn at places, no bathroom toiletries. Bathroom was big with both Indian and western style loo's but on the floor, the drainage was bad, water jets were leaking. There is no room service, they only give morning tea if you ask for, that too smelled of onions. Restaurant food was pathetic. They provide complementary breakfast which is only one plate idly. Avoid this hotel if you can.

Room Tip: The ground floor room has lot of noise from the adjecent main road

This hotel which is run by the Karnataka Government's tourism department is a blemish to Mysore. Hot water is available ONLY from 7AM to 11AM. The hotel is noisy with construction work and road traffic. Whilst the state of the toilets in terms of cleanliness and amenities may be acceptable to Indians, the broken electrical infrastructure in room 105 (several switchboards either have wires protruding from them, or are un-hinged, or have switches missing). The shower head is all clogged-up. The squatting-type toilet is not only disgusting in appearance but smelly. The bed linen was old, stained and torn. We were neither provided towels not soaps. After asking, we got 1 mini-sized soap (for a family of 2 adults and 2 very small children) but no towels ! At breakfast we got a plate with little quantity of uppuma). No milk for coffee or tea and no bread, butter or jam or anything else ... only "uppuma". Also, the hotel staff did not give us the complementary breakfast vouchers. So, we had to pay for our breakfast ! Poor way to welcome foreign tourists. It gives a bad impression of Indian hospitality and hotel service as being unhygenic, unsafe, stingy and bureaucratic. The hotel staff at the front desk appear least interested in attending to clients. Also, like typical Government staff, each person only does the strict minimum and even that after asking many times. However, at check-out time they are all there to collect their tips ! Unfortunately we have booked and pre-paid for 2 stays in this hotel !!!

One of my alltime favourite budget level hotels, the rooms are large and well appointed, I allways ask for an upstairs non AC,( a bit quieter than ground floor) and the ensuites are huge, with his and hers sinks and loos. The large verahndas run the length of the building and afford every room with a comfotable outside seating area. Set back in its own grounds the road noise is minimal and there is ample private and secure parking. The resteraunt offers multinational cuisine and there is a bar if you fancy a cold beer. Indian style breakfast included in the price of 800rps (non AC). There are plenty of cheaper options in Mysore, but if your budget can stand it, splash out on the Hotel Mayura Hoysala.

As any one would, we were also carried away looking at the beautiful pictures on the website. The availability of online booking facility and given that it is run by KSTDC made it all the more appealing to us. We just stayed there for a single night and were totally disappointed by the look, feel and service. I do agree , it is a kind of decent place to stay and is well connected to the tourist destinations. But, any one who pays more than a thousand bucks per day would ideally expect better things ! This place needs a lot of improvement and loads of maintenance ! If you are looking for an economical place, go for it .But, make sure you land up there with no expectations !

We satyed for 2 nights in this hotel. The buiding is old and beautiful with lots of greenary around. The rooms were just average, the bathrooms need renovation.Even though we booked AC rooms,no towels or soaps were provided in the bathroom. The resturant really needs a lot of improvement in the field of hygiene, staff and service. The included breakfast is nothing great-only a Dosa and coffee is served. The taste of the food is good though not excellent.
The staff though nice needs to improve and should have a good uniform and be polished in their dealings with the customer.
