“Pleasant Stay but needs to upgrade”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2014

Stayed at Radisson Shimla for 2 nights/3days. Firstly the property is difficult to locate for people new to the place as it is far from the mall road. This is one big disadvantage. They do provide pick and drop to the mall but charge Rs.150 for every trip which I think is unreasonable. Walk to the mall road from Radisson is not that far but since the entire route is a steep climb it becomes difficult to walk. Though while coming back one can easily walk down because then its a downward slope. So everytime while going to the mall we had to hire their car for a mere 500 metres for which they charged Rs.150. I request them to please keep this complimentary for their guests.

Coming to the rooms, we stayed in C wing on 3rd floor that offered amazing views of the valley. I think view wise the rooms in the C wing are 10/10. But the furniture, interior and decor of the rooms looks outdated! Even the bathrooms look old. So the rooms need major revamping.

The layout of the hotel is little confusing because it has 3 wings. We often got confused finding our room, their restaurant and the lobby area.

Food was very good. Buffet breakfast had many choices.

The staff needs special mention as it is very courteous and always willing to help, be it at the front desk, restaurant or room service. Superb staff and always smiling.

cons:
- far from the mall road
- pick and drop to the mall is chargeable
- rooms look outdated

pros:
- excellent staff and services
- very good food
- good location as it offers amazing valley view

Overall I feel we had a very pleasant stay at the Radisson Shimla.Go there if you wan to stay away from the hustle bustle of the city. You will not regret choosing this hotel for your stay.

Room Tip: Choose rooms in the C wing on a higher floor.

I went for a Family stay at Radisson Shimla with 2 Rooms Booked 4 Days in Advance, Reached at 3:00 pm & the Staff gave me key for 1 room & said the other would be ready in Half n Hour. when Check in Starts at 2pm they why were the rooms not ready till 3. Though the Staff was gentle & helpful.

They told me we have 2 Private Parties in the Hotel today. In the evening when we went to the Restaurant for Dinner & Drinks they did not allow us to enter inside & told us that Their is a Private Party going & no one is allowed. Someone kindly tell us that then where would the Guest Staying in the Hotel have their Dinner.

Having Private Parties in Hotel is a separate issue but you cannot close the Bar or the Restaurant for the Guest staying in the Hotel.

upon Check out the charged for two services extra which i did not use.

Very Strange & Bitter Experience for me.

On the other side the hotel was neat & clean, the food which we had IN LUNCH was average but nothing in front of what is expected from Radisson Hotels.

I would say this was my First & Last Stay with Radisson Hotels.

I stayed at Radisson Shimla in May 2014. The staff are very hospitable and are eager to help. Special mention needs to be made of the executive chef, Mr. Ranjan Panda who went out of the way to ensure that we get the type of food we wanted. The rooms are spacious and they offer an enthralling view of the sunset. It is close to the mall road and we were able to walk to the mall road with my 4 year old son. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Shimla.

Stayed after after getting the famous train from Kalka to Simla.Hotel warm and welcoming with marvellous views .We were only here for one night and barely scratched the surface of all the things we wished to see. Visited the monkey temple(watch out for the monkeys snatching your sunglasses!)and the Viceregal lodge, enjoyed walking around Simla -would love to come back here for longer next time.

We Loved staying at the Radisson because it delivered what it promised ! The Rooms were lovely large spacious and the hotel graciously provided accommodation for my staff as well. They were airy and well lit and we had a lovely view of the hills and forest. It was lovely to wake up to a mellow sunrise on the hills.

Meals were plentiful with a wide variety for adults and children ( my son was 2.5) the staff were helpful with requests. The outfit is huge and there are times when the coffee shop/buffet orders get mixed up and take time. But they do make an effort to right themselves at the earliest. Als they are handling very large volumes, and a lot of requests with Lots of children running all over the restaurants, corridors and the lobby - so have to hand it to the staff to go about business with a smile. The amenities were fine in the rooms - liked the coffee machines in the rooms and the baskets of fresh fruit every day...

The only draw back is that the property is vast and multi level - so it is quite a trek to-fro for breakfast/room/transfers or any other facility that one may want to use. It has a little play area for the children with some child minders (however it is recommended for children over 5 - who can be left in those circumstances, leaving toddlers and pre schoolers not suggested as the property being large - not to take chances of having kids running around bends) though the staff is actually mindful of kids.

We took time to find the property but once we did - we liked the location, away but not far from the mall ... so all in all a good vacation !!

Its a nice property and has services on par with Radisson brand. Hotel is close to the mall road but requires a steep climb. They have parking for guests which is a big plus especially in Shimla
Rooms are spread over multiple floors. One needs to be cautious especially with toddlers given the steps all over the propoerty

Room Tip: Please choose room at the same level with that of restaurant.

The hotel is below the mall area on The Lower Bharari Road. You need to walk up a steep road for apx. 500 Mtrs before you get to the stairs that lead up to the Mall Road on the Lakkar bazaar side. Those who are not physically fit will find this a challenge. The Taxi charges Rs 100 for 500 Mts. The Hotel taxi changes Rs 150 + Tax.

Otherwise the property is located in a nice scenic spot. The hotel is on various levels built into a hill side. It can get a little confusing to navigate. The parking is small but the local chauffeurs will take care of your vehicle. The Breakfast menu is fantastic with a huge selection all well prepared. The servers and the cook will accommodate all your food desires which may not even be on the menu and won't charge you (extra) for it. The misbehaved guests will generally exploit this kindness to the hilt. The Cook will even customize your food dishes and the servers are kind and enthusiastic.

The swimming pool is small and built on two levels with a kid pool at the lower level. I have no complaints as my kiddo finally learnt how to swim here as the size was appropriate for her. The Changing rooms are excellent with all facilities.

Please do not expect extended check out in may / June as the hotel is overflowing during this period. The Rooms are adequate / neat and clean and nothing exceptional. They meet the standards of the hotel.

Room Tip: I really do not think you can choose a room.
