“Excellent experience in room booking!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2012

I am a new member of RGBC and this booking was against the free travel voucher. I had sounded my Relationship manager in Apr 12 that I would like to travel somewhere near delhi only in the month of July. She offered me Shimla wef 14 July 12. The booking was kept pending as I had to pay some dues before I could get a confirmed booking.

Once I had paid the dues in the month of Jun 12, I got a call regarding my booking at Shimla. I faxed them the gift voucher and promptly i got a confirmation through my email.

I shall be staying in their property for the first time, so will write in detail about my experience at their resort!!!!

Room Tip: Please book early to avoid disappointment....

We stayed in Royal Himalayan for 4 days in June'12. The property is small but well maintained. Comfortable rooms with a sofa bed for the kids. A good activity room for the kids with good host to look after them. The staff go out of their way to please. Food is average with dinner buffet priced at 400 for adult and 190 for kids plus taxes. Checked out early and it took 10 minutes.
The location is perfect and Nalderha (4Km), Kufri (15 km) and Shimla (17Km) make for perfect day breaks.
Overall a good holiday.

Room Tip: Avoid room no 201 as it is adjoining the kitchen and clatter is prominent.

This was our first experience with RGBC since we became member at Goa last year (2011). The property is excellently placed in Baldeyan on the way to Naldehra, Shimla. Away from Shimla in the midst of the Naldehra hills the rooms have some beautiful picturesque view. Shimla being the capital of Himachal Pradesh is quite a busy place, so being away from the hassles of the city was an added advantage.
We were offered a room on second floor, Clean, Spacious, with adequate furniture, wooden floor, a mini refrigerator etc... The room had a nice view facing west and we enjoyed the sunset times. Cool breeze and hot tea were our memorable moments at "Naldehra Grand" as they call it.
The overall ambiance in the resort was very nice, It was clean & well managed, very nice reception area, adequate entertainment area with gym TT table, chess, Carom, playing cards play station, some books, pool table etc.
The staff at the resort was very prompt and warm in their interaction. The housekeeping staff was also very good and prompt. Changing the bed cover, maintain the Bathrooms, drinking water, washing of tea making jar etc... on daily basis.
An event of honesty is highly appreciated which I narrate, One day we forgot a gold chain in the bathroom near the wash basin and proceeded for sight seeing. The room service staff cleaned our room as they used to do daily. When we came back we found the gold chain properly placed in the room. "Hat's off, Keep it up"!!!
Looking forward to visit again may be in some winter times.

Room Tip: All rooms are facing west, the view of the valley would become better as you go higher, no issues th...

I’m just back from my holiday in Shimla (India) and would like to express my complete disappointment at the “deliberate” blunder made by your booking office together with lack of quality service at Royal Himalayan Resort, Naldhera causing us unnecessary stress and anxiety which practically ruined our holiday.

The trip was planned in Jan’12 when I made booking at Royal Himalayan Resort (RHR) for 6 people, including 4 kids. My brother-in-law, also a member of Royal Resorts jointly with me, was to stay at RHR while I was staying at Club Mahindra few kms away from RHR during the same period. The booking in RHR was done for 2 Bedroom apartment as the kids wanted to stay together during the holiday. On 15th May on our way to the resort we got a welcome call from RHR and we were very impressed. That’s where the good part of our experience with RHR ends and it was a disaster from then on.

When we reached the resort we were told that the 2 Bedroom unit, we had booked for 6 people, was unavailable as the bathroom was broken and was under repair. We sensed something amiss and insisted that they show us the unit to which they refused. On being persistent the staff at the resort admitted that they have just 2 units and the bookings were done for 3 families and both the units were occupied! In fact, the staff even told us that they had brought this issue up with the booking office in Goa 3-4 days earlier but they said that they will sort it out with the member (viz. me). Of course, no such call had come.

As all the units were occupied they could not accommodate us in 2 BR and instead they offered us 2 studios and we were told that they would try to give us a 2 BR unit next day. As the other guests refused to shift from 2 BR unit even on the next day we were stuck with 2 studios. It was only after we made a written complaint on 17th and one family vacated a 2 BR unit that we were shifted into it on 17th May.

Meanwhile, on morning of 17th May’12, we had ordered breakfast comprising of Aloo Paranthas (Stuffed Indian break) among other things. To the dismay of my 12 year old niece, she found a 2 inch long hair in the parantha which she had already almost finished eating half. The staff offered to replace it and brought another parantha. Lo and behold, another piece of hair was lying right in the middle of that parantha too! Needless to say, after that we lost all appetite to eat anything at RHR.

On the morning of 17th May we made a written complaint about the fiasco in booking and the complete mismanagement of our stay at the resort. To assuage our feelings the hotel staff offered us refund of 50% of the points utilized for the booking period. By that time we were completely sickened with the treatment we had received at RHR. We told the staff that we are not interested in the refund as the issue was not about the size of the unit but about the experience of staying at the resort. After all, we take holiday once or twice in a year and we don’t expect our holiday to get jarred by such incidents.

In the period starting from the time we landed at the resort until the morning of 17th May, the resort GM did not visit us even once despite the inconveniences we were being put through. It was only after i made a written complaint on 17th May that he came and met me to apologize.

To sum up :

1. RHR booked more guests than they had units to accommodate.
2. No prior information was given to us about shifting us to 2 studios. In fact, we were lied about the bathroom being broken.
3. The GM did not bother to even meet us until we lodged an official complaint on 17th May’12. Other staff members could not give a satisfactory reply except saying that the bookings are not handled by them. Nobody from the booking office in Goa called until 18th May and then again there was no sensible explanation offered except to apologize. All this just shows that the management did not consider this issue important enough until they realized that I will not be pacified with apologies and allurements of points refund.
4. Hair in the paranthas, not just once but twice, shows the hygiene standard followed in the resort.

Not only was our holiday experience ruined by the “welcome” we got at the resort but we also ended up wasting lot of time in the useless exercise of complaints and follow ups with the management who were giving one excuse after another.

I have sent an email to the Chairman of Royal Resort and to the head in India but so far there is no reply. Mr. Savio and Ms. Vaz from Goa did call me up to apologize but what's the point in apologizing when the mess was created knowingly and consciously in the first place?

Room Tip: The resort is of standard quality. All rooms are average. Very basic resort in an average location...

I have been a Royal Club member since 2009 and been to Goa, Kovalam and Bali earlier.

RHC at Shimla is the Best when it comes to the Location, the hospitality and excellent service that you are pampered with.

The Property is Neat and Clean and at a very picturesque location near Naldehra. The drive of about an hour from shimla is a bit tiring after a long journey from Delhi but when you reach the Place you realize that its well worth the travel.

The Staff in Shimla is the best of all Royal Properties i have been to, Bali being a close second.

The food is Great and good choice of Food and Beverages available through the day.

All services were Prompt and local sight-seeing was arranged by the RHC persons during my 4 night stay.

The best part was the Staff at the Entertainment area kept all including my Kids busy with some activity or the other with many options like TT, Pool, Playstation, Cards,Carrom, and Little kids play area. Maybe next time look forward to more activities too.

Surely look forward to visit again and next time in December , maybe.

Being a RGBC member it was our first trip to any of their properties. i read some reviews on tripadvisor & was a bit nervous. But when we reached there it was all well. Warm welcome, quick assistance, quick checkin, too good hospitality. Rooms were clean & tidy. (rooms must have atleast one partition for 4 to sleep. Room service is too good. Restaurant was good & average rates. Balcony view is too good. you can see mountains topped with snow on the right of the building. Other facility like club house & Gym are fantastic. There are lot of games where children & adults even can play like table tenis, carrom board, chess, snooker, etc. In gym they have treadmill, Vibrator, cycle, dumbells & a mini gym 7 all r working well.

Only thing is that this property is 22kms from Shimla town. 4 kms from Naldera golf court & 40 kms from Tattapani. But this property is good to stay & enjoy.

We as a family liked it lot . We thank all dear team @ Royal HImalayan club for warm hospitlity. Regards !
