“A haven within Delhi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2008

We were fortunate that a travel agent referred us to Lutyens for our second visit to Delhi. It is a lovely secluded green haven within the noise and hubbub of Delhi. There rooms are arranged around a large lawn -- that has parrots, beautiful flowers and a swingset. Although the rooms are older they are well maintained, though simple. I loved the textiles used on the beds and the window coverings that are Indian made. The breakfast buffet is sufficient and offers cereals, cooked eggs, yogurt, paratha, fruit and beverages. We especially enjoyed the warm welcome from the owners who live on the premises. There is a fridge stocked with mineral water, beer & soda available for guests (for minimal charge). Overall we felt welcomed and comfortable. Rates are moderate but decent for Delhi.

Nice setting, but ridiculously overpriced! I paid $150/night for a room that was not worth more than $20. Plus, they tried to make me pay for an extra night +taxi, arguing that they had not seen my cancellation email, because their internet was down! The internet was, indeed, not working for the whole time I was there. Next time Ill stay in a five star hotel for the same price.

We were very disappointed with our stay at Lutyens Bungalows. We arrived in the middle of the night and were taken to a very basic room that was infested with ants. The beds were not much more than stiff boards with very thin sheets. The door had cracks (no insulation) around the frame, so cool air quickly escaped and the lock was a rickety padlock and key. This would barely be acceptable as a budget accommodation, but with mid range prices we expected much much more. Unhappy with the situation, we tried to leave early but were told we would be charged 100% of our reservation for the remaining days. The staff was unhelpful and hard to come by. The property was not well maintained and the restaurant had pigeons resting on the fans and fridge. I very much do not recommend this guest house to anyone looking for a comfortable stay in Delhi.

A wonderful introduction to India for those arriving in Delhi. Shukla and her staff are utterly delightful and we were made to feel right at home from the moment we arrived.

The rooms are quite basic but clean and well maintained and the breakfasts and dinners are good value. It's not the cheapest hotel on the block but you will certainly feel it has been worth spending a bit more to have the peace of the lovely garden, the pool, the warm welcome and the very nice and interesting company of the cosmopolitan clientele.

I'm looking forward to going back there.

Lutyens guesthouse is in a very upscale neighbourhood - clean, quiet and safe. While it is not in the center of things, it is not far either, Connaught Place is a 10 min rickshaw ride away.

The accommodation itself is clean, basic, no frills. Breakfast is included in the bill, and meals are served in the garden outdoors - where it is very hard to imagine that you are in the middle of bustling Delhi. The guest house has a pool, which we never tried out.

The Lonely Planet recommends this place, and there were some good reviews on TripAdvisor. Which kind of raised my expectations, and when I first got there, I was a little disappointed with the grounds and the basic nature of the accommodation.
Overall, this place would have been very good value for money at about 2/3 the current price (Rs 5500/night). But Delhi hotel prices are ridiculously high, and a decent hotel room in CP would probably cost Rs 1000 more at least.

Lovely quite retreat in Delhi - quite a good value for the location and helpfulness of the staff. Breakfasts are good and varied - dinners are great North Indian vegetarian when available and the other visitors that you meet over meals and when enjoying the gardens are a great bonus.

I stayed at the Lutyens Bungalow Guesthouse twice in February with my family. While the rooms are simple, the two that we stayed in (rooms # 5 and 6) were large and comfortable. I would suggest room 5 over room 6 as the bathroom was much larger. The one drawback for some people is that these 2 rooms did not have windows, other than in the door. However, with kids that needed naps in the middle of the day this was perfect for us. They do also have some great rooms at the back of the property with windows overlooking the garden.

Breakfasts are great and a good time to meet other travelers. The owners/hosts are very nice and helpful. Our girls loved the playground and the pet dogs. Another nice feature is the large garden in the back where we had our breakfast and where we could sit and relax any time. There is a fridge on the patio stocked with water, soft drinks and beer which you can help yourself to and just note your room number down (very reasonably priced I should add). They also provide same day laundry service at reasonable rates.

Given the great location (we were able to walk to Khan Market for those interested in shopping), the lovely quiet neighborhood, and the generally high prices for accomodation in Delhi I think it is a very good value. We even had friends who live in Delhi tell us that they thought it was a great deal.

The guesthouse had wireless internet access that we were able to access from our room using our laptop (and a computer terminal if you dont have your own laptop).

Overall we very much enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay here again the next time we are in Delhi.
