Dakshin is often considered a stalwart in the South Indian restaurant scene. Its reputation is well deserved, since the food, ambiance and service were absolutely spot-on! We went for lunch as a couple with a 4 year old kid. Before writing about their stellar food, I'd like to make a special mention about their service. Our child was treated so well, and made to feel almost like an adult (which is big thing with little ones!) that it did make the lunch special for her as well! The chef also sent a couple of complimentary kid-friendly dishes to our table for her. Now, coming to the menu- it is well designed to have a mix of authentic dishes as well as a few dishes with toned down spices, which suit the non-south Indian palate more. My husband, who's south Indian was happily surprised to find quite a few traditional dishes on the menu, which are usually not present in the restaurants. One of these is Kuzhi Paniyaram, tiny little idlis traditionally made in stone mould, and then deep fried. These were a hit with our child! A few more fantastic dishes were- Yetti Sukka (yummy spicy shrimps), Meen Moilee (beautifully cooked fish in silky coconut milk gravy) and Adai Pradhaman (an interesting & super sweet desert of jaggery & rice). Dakshin is a brillaint restaurant, and I can't fault it in any way. The location, interiors, hospitality & food are all a class apart! Will keep going back for more.
