“Bad Area”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2008

The hotel is clean for Delhi. For the price, it is not so bad. The location, however, is not the best in the city. For the same price you can stay in South Delhi. We were awakened at five in the morning sounds of street vendors yelling, dogs barking and singing at the nearby temple. I traveled with two other women and we did not feel very safe walking around at night. Service was very spotty. The gentleman at the front desk seemed to be half asleep everytime we encountered him. The breakfast was decent. The young men working the breakfast buffet were very helpful.

The hotel is clean and tidy, has air con and hot water and provides most of what it says it does. The location is pretty good, just off Karol Bagh's main street about 5-10mins tuc tuc ride West of Connaught Place. Reasonably handy for most of Delhi's sights.
The noise is a problem, the continual soundtrack of traffic rumble, horns, music and general goings on. It is a big problem for the rooms on the front - keep hold of the airline's earplugs - but the rooms on the back are quieter.
One of the managers on reception is far from helpful and has a disregard for any reputation of the hotel - we witnessed him charging 3 different people 3 different prices for a taxi to the airport in the same afternoon! He continually made promises that he did not keep.
Not bad value all in all but expect middle of the road at best and you will not disappointed...

The hotel looks nice, but has some problems. The area isn't very attractive, but reception looks nice and rooms are nicely furnished. Note that some rooms have no windows, but they are quiet. Those with windows are of 2 types- windows faces the other building, wich is very close or faces the street! The noise is terrible, because the windows are of very bad quality. So it seems like you sleep outside...room size is quite good. everything is clean, except the bed sheets!.. breakfast was ok, reception staff polite and helpful. it was possible to have airport pick up, what is convienent, but was hard to find the driver among those millions of people. in summary, average hotel, whereas the noise and dirty bed sheets.

Grand President has a nice reception area! However I was not impressed at all with the room! If you stay there make sure you do NOT stay in room 101. This room is right on an extremely noisy road, and there is constant noise outside - you will always here traffic and horns outside, and will be awoken early morning by some repetitive music (religious i think!). There was works going on next door i.e. hammering etc, but the hotel said it was at the building next door, we weren't so sure! We found the hotel staff pleasant, but not helpful at all. We asked them if they could find out about train tickets for us and they never even got back to us. The room itself is average. Ladies there are no hairdryers so be aware! The breakfast was ok, but nothing special. One good thing about the hotel is the location, it is very central, and in Karol Bagh market. Overall, it is average, but for us wasn't worth the money we paid for it.

Great atmosphere, the hotel is very clean and even smells good! Room was modern, very nicely furnished, clean, and spacious. Windows in my room received very little natural sunlight, but there were plenty of light fixtures to compensate. Immaculate bathroom, separate area for the shower, and good hot showers. The hotel is on a quieter street. There was construction just outside when I was there, but the windows do a pretty good job of blocking out the noise.

Reception staff can be a bit surly, and some people in my group had problems checking in, with hotel staff telling them that they do not have a reservation. Some staff members are not very responsive. We put our luggage in the basement "luggage room" and they had splattered paint over some of the bags. Restaurant staff is superb, every little detail is treated with care, but not too many diners and the food is a bit slow and overpriced. Breakfast buffet was pretty good.

This place is in Karol Bagh, not the best area but very resonable rate for Delhi. We walked by and decided to stay here... breakfast is included which for Delhi is not as commom. Do not have any hotel pick you up at Airport... they rip you off... it is easy to hire a Pre-paid taxi at airport which is 1/4 the price. Make sure you are very clear on the quote and if you arrive really early, they may want to charge you for the room... clarify this. Be firm with Delhi hotels as they all try to scam a bit. We paid around 3500 rupess for 3 people and insisted they use a cot and not mattress on the floor.
